Hi I've just bought a 8800gt (asus branded) and I'm getting very dissapointing 3DMark 06 results, and am hoping someone could give me some possible causes. I get a bit over 3000 for both shader 2.0 and 3.0 which im fairly certain is very low for this card. My CPU score is around 1600 which is about right. In total I get around 7500. My rig is as follows:

Athlon X2 3800 socket 939 (@2.4GHz)
1GB DDR3200
Asus 8800GT (@stock)
Foxconn NF4SK8AA (nforce 4 chipset)
Windows Vista Ultimate

Using nvidia forceware 169.02
When I run 3DMark 06 it reports that there is no systems similar to mine to do a comparison which seems strange as I hardly have very high end or niche components...
Worth noting is that I only have a generic 400W power supply, could this be the cause of the lack of performance? The system is very stable so im not sure it is. Could it be my rather out-dated motherboard and ram, although my CPU score is what I would expect.

Any suggestions appreciated.

7500 sounds right for a rig with Vista and only 1GB of DDR1 RAM.

Try adding another GB.

I think your memory is indeed limitating your perfomance, however...Your 8800GT is running on a 400 watt PSU. If you add another memory stick you may justexceed the border line. You could have squashed much more out of that rig if socket 939 had DDR2 support... unfortunetely.

Hey thanks to all for the replys! Are the 3DMark shader scores independant of the CPU? I know the overall score includes the CPU but I thought for the shader scores only the GPU counted? Just ran 3DMark and here's the exact numbers for anyone who's interested.

3DMark Score 7563 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 3266 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 3847 Marks

CPU Score 1638 Marks

I believe the combonation of your RAM and CPU is bottlenecking your graphics card quite severely because this is my score:

System:

  • AMD Opteron 165 @ 2.5GHz
  • 2GB RAM DDR400
  • 8800GTS 640MB

Score:

  • 3DMark Score: 8837
  • SM2.0 Score: 4114
  • SM3.0 Score: 4427
  • CPU Score: 1789

ya your ram and cpu are definetly a bottleneck, but your also running vista which is never good cause there goes nearly all the ram you have. ddr 3200 is older and quite a bit slower than the newer ddr2 6400 - 1066.

so that score is probably fairly close to what you would expect. do a little bit of system clean up and you might boost it a bit

the score is right for a setup with a x2 3800 in it and 1gb of RAM. Also if youre using Vista too.

If you were to upgrade to 2GB then under Vista you should see a massive performance boost, as I score the same in both Vista and XP with 2GB.

I am having the same problem.
I have:
x2 6000+ processor

MSI motherboard k9a platinum

8800gt

2 gigs ddr2 800mhz

vista home premium 32

My scores for 2.0 and 3.0 are both at about 2500 and that can't possibly be right. The scores should be double that for this card.

My problem my not be this but a lot of people are having problems with PCI-E defaulting to x1. Go to your nvidia control panel, click the help button, choose system information and see if your PCI-E bus says 16 or 1. If it says 1 then go into bios and change it to 16. If it keeps defaulting to 1 then I think you have to change bios.

Your joking right? I have the same setup except my CPU is 200 mhz faster and I get over 13k in 3dmark06.

What are you CPU, SM2, and SM3 scores???

That is a little low. I used to run an X2 3800 @ 2.4GHz myself, before picking up an Opty 185.

With that setup running an overclocked 8800GTS 640MB (G80 core) and Vista, I got scores of 8116 (total), 1766 (CPU), 3713 (SM2), and 3940 (SM3).

yet i can play crysis all settings high (even some V high), 1920x1200, 2xedgeAA... and framerate rarely goes under 20.

and isnt it weird how 20fps in crysis feels like alot more that it is? i wonder how they achieved that effect...

Well, it seems that i have the same problem with the Asus 8800GT (the one with the new cooler) and i can't possibly find out what's wrong!! If everything is at default in 3d Mark 06 (default tests and settings) i get a 5818 score...I have :

AMD X2 4600+ @2,4GHz

2GB (2X1) Dual Channel Kingston 5-5-5-15 DDR2@667,

Asus Crosshair Mobo,

Thermaltake 550W PSU

X-fi Fatal1ty platinum soundcard

Everything seems fine...the pci-e bus is at 16x, nothing is overclocked or failing, the latest drivers and bios updates are installed and I recently had a clean install of my windows. I'm now running XP black edition but i'll soon switch back to my authentic XP pro since i hear alot of weird stuff about malware, though my antivirus and spyware utilities haven't found any so far...Any help greatly appreciated!!!

My Specs:

AMD 64 3400+ 2.2Ghz

1 GB of DDR RAM (PC 3200)

500W PSU

X1950pro IceQ3 607/789

My 3DMARK06 score is 4089 :(

Is that the right score for my specs and is my CPU and my RAM bottenecking my GPU?
