I'm thinking about upgrading my video card soon and am in the price range of about 300 maybe 350 bucks. I was wondering if 2 HD3850's in Crossfire would be better than a single 8800gt (G92). I also have an EVGA 680i motherboard if that's worth noting. trodebackGet a single GT but the 512mb one, than 6 months later or so once they drop in price buy an another one and SLI them. Total cost should fall in your range.
If you range is up to 350 USD then i whould go to 8800GTS(512), i know its only about 10% better than 8800GT but its only for 30-40 more bucks and it will really help you later especially when you go SLI.
People were sayig that difference is close to 100USD, but check at newegg they are almost about 30~45 after rebates.SearchMaster
I've read a few threads where people say that it really isn't worth doing SLI unless your doing it with the top of the line cards avaliable. But I'm wondering if it would be better to get two lower end cards and together they'd be as good as or better than the nicer card. I guess it's the same idea behind overclocking. Buying a cheaper part(s) and using them to outperform the more expensive parts.
Also keep in mind that if you are going to SLI, watch your temps. Especially if you've got some PCI cards sandwiched between them. I had an SLI rig (2 7600 GT's) with my sound card and wireless card in between and the temps rose a bit.
EDIT: I have an ASUS mobo, so I'm not sure if all SLI motherboards are designed the same way (2 PCI-E slots with PCI slots in between).
