Is that card meant to be played at high with a resolution of 1280 by 1024 and lower??
And the 640mb version to 1440 by 900 and up?

Thge difference between the 320 and 640 MB version is in the order of 1-2 fps in most games at 1600*1200.

The 320 will be good for you all the way up to 1680x1050. At 1680x1050 you need to start considering a 640. Although there is no point in getting a 640, as the 2900XT is only $40 more and performs much better.Zaber123
If you don't mind the very noisey fan and increased power usage, the 2900xt is better. I went for the 8800gts 640 becuase it's almost silent!!
It just means a given level can contain up to 500 MB of uncompressed textures. Any given scene only uses 1/10th of those textures. The unused textures can be swapped between the video ram and the main memory. If you don't have enough video ram and/or a slower PC, this swapping causes slowdowns.
Any modern gaming PC can run Doom 3 at ultra settings without a hitch these days.
