I would wait a little if you can, R600 is coming out soon, which if you have the cash should get that (if it's as good as is told ^_^) If you've not got the cash for that, it would drive the prices down on the 8800GTZ.

wait for it i don't understand everyones ubsession with buying direct 10 cards now the first games supporting direct 10 doesn't even come out till may then the next one isn't till november and i wouldn't be suprised if less then 30 percent of the games coming out in 2008 support it so just buy a better direct 9 card like the 7900GS or 7900GT depending on you budget then make the direct 10 leap in late 2008 when more games support it also the cards will be cheaper

Or buy the best DX9 card which also supports DX10. 8800gtx. If you want good fps with hi res and maxed settings on many of the latest games you need an 8800gtx. With the r600 so close might as well wait.

the best DX9 which also supports DX10???? there are none. just wait and see if the R6xxx is better than the 8xxx series and buy which ever is best.

I have to agree with this guyz!  and yes! you have to wait for the coming of R6XXX.  Maybe this VC will overcome 8800GS or GTX.  Who knows?

The 8800gtx supports dx9 obviously, and it is the best performing card for dx9 games. That's what the person meant.

Your best bet, if you REALLY want it now and can't wait, is to buy an eVGA 8800. Supposedly Nvidia has the 8900 series (refresh of the 8800s) waiting in the wings for AMD to release the R600s(XTX2900). Thus, even if the R600 beats the 8800, you will probably see comparable performance from the 8900s and can simply use eVGA's step-up program. If you can wait, then wait a bit though.

i just hope you can step up to that though...... we had a few people get shafted when people with the stock 8800's wanted to step up to the 8800 acs3 edition but couldn't. I guess it was because of limited supply of that certain product, i'm optimistic that it won't be so for the 8800 Ultra and/or the 8900's

Unless you need it now, I'd wait to see what ATI is offering. At least wait until Crysis is out (if you can handle it), this is what I am doing.

Wait. In a few weeks you can either get newer, more powerful technology (ATI) or price drops (Nvidia). Might as well get one or the other. A 7600 is decent enough to game on while you're waiting.
