8800GTX Worth it right now?

Hey, I was wondering..Are the series 8 cards worth it to get right now?

Wont the series 9 cards be like 600$ each when they come out?

yea but theres a difference between getting something when it comes out and getting it a year after it comes out and something new is just over the horizon.

i got the 320mb 8800gts for temporary use, cheap and good enough until 9series comes out. i just hope they're not so damn big.

I dont think that was really the question. The implication is of course "should I wait?" but what was actually asked was "are they worth it". I'm struggling a little bit with the same question. Most of the time I'd say yes because, as you said, there will always be something better just down the road. Most of the time whats out now is good. I'm not sure thats true of the 8 series. They are killer dx9 cards but it seems they are only passable dx10 cards.

Its too bad we dont know when the series 9 cards are going to be out. It would make deciding what to do easy. If they arent coming out for 6 months, then by all means just buy the best you can now. If they are really coming out in november and they are really going to be ~$600 then my plan personally would be to wait.
