I was wondering if 8GB is viable for gaming yet or if 4GB will be fine for the next year or 2? BTW, i will be running Vista 64bit, a phenom X4, most likely DFI's best AM2+ mobo, and a 9800 GTS. i plan on playing crysis on high settings and future games like fallout 3. thanks

waste of money for right now. 4 2gig sticks would be expensive and unneeded for gaming.

why are you waiting for those parts to come out to build? you might be waiting a while

Since only vista 64bit can use more than 4gigs of memory ATM. I would say that it probably won't happen until the next windows OS.

9800 won't come out until next year some time. 8800GTS refresh is comming in november, as well as the 8800GT next week.

For gaming purposes, we're just starting to bite into 2GB - 4GB will be more than enough for gaming for the forseeable future. 8GB shouldn't be a worry for at least another 3 years or so. Of course by then I'd like to see SSD's take off enough that we can have our hard drives and RAM combined into one, and finally eliminate one of the biggest bottlenecks in the modern PC.

When the new Windows needs almost 4GB of RAM to run decently. :P
