I have received conflicting opinions on whether I can use an EVGAGt (low power) card on an HP p6120t desktop with 250 watt power supply. I only have one hard drive and one dvd drive, but I will be connecting several mp3 players and printers into the USB ports. What do you guys think?

If the power supply goes, it will mess up other things? I thought you just needed to replace the supply if it goes bad. I really want to try this card as it gets pretty good reviews and is supposed to be made to work on low end power supplies. I have run a 6800OC (the one that required the extra wire for power) on a 250 watt Dell power supply for around 3 years with no problems.

Someone mentioned before that an 8400 gt would be the best I could do without a new power supply. I really would like something better, as I would like to play call of duty modern warfare. I have a core 2 duo (7500 2.93 GHz) and 3 GB of Ram.

In my experience, HP uses very good quality power supplies. They may not be rated high in wattage, but they are very consistent and reliable for the wattage they are rated at. You should be fine as long as the card gets all of its power from the MB slot.

I agree - if it does not require a PCIe power connection from the PSU, it should work fine.

This is the exact power supply used in my pc:

250-watt (max) power supply (Zinfandel), Bestec ATX-250-12V) - 100-120VAC and 200-240VAC input (switch selectable), 50/60Hz

hd 2400 pro 8400gs are your best bets if you alrdy have one of those or an x1600 dont bother trying anything betetr till you get a better psu.. no matter what quality his psu is.. not 12v rail can make up for a difference of 150 watts.

It does not require a lead to the power supply. Motherboard power only!

What cards would you guys recommend for a 250 watt power supply? Or what power supply would work with my pc (HP p6120t)?

You COULD just get a 450w power supply for roughly $30 on newegg, then get a 9800 GT for maybe $100-$125.

yeah any psu will do you there... just be aware that when it comes to psu's generally you get what you pay for.. (5oo watt psu for $25 with really short cabling for example)

+2 On my current 2-year old HP desktop, I recently swapped out my original PSU for a 580W one. I'll keep it as a back-up. Even better is my other 8 year old HP one... still on the original PSU. Runs strong to this day.

Anyways... for only 250 wattts... there is really nothing major you can do with that small amount of power.

Found this one. It only wants 325 watts. I know it's not ideal, but I think it would work for me! (empire at war, C & C Generals, Star Wars Battlefront).

300 watts = hd 4550 it will do alot more than general or battlefront 2 but it might stutter on empires at war it will play most other rts's wel however (red alert 3, dawn of war 1 & 2, universe at war) you might also get lucky and find an old low power hd 3650 somewhere that too would work aswell as step all over empires on say idk medium

really rts have become somewhat demanding world in conflict, dawn of war 2, and company of heroes get used for benchmarking cards often supreme commander.. ehh not so much. to play any rts out on high or better your aiming for this system:

intel core 2 duo cpu (over but not including 2.5Ghz)

2-4GB ram

nivida 9800gt/ati hd 4830 or 4770
