Hey guys. Anyone with any thoughts I'd appreciate it. This hardware forum has always been very friendly to me and is full of some reallytechsavy people so maybe someone can help.I'm fairly knowledgeable about computers but am really stuck on this.

I received a 9800 GT from EVGA as an RMA replacement for an older card about a year ago. It installed cleanly and works great with the drivers it shipped with. Sadly after that any driver updates i've tried to use has caused windows to reboot without sending a signal to the monitor. It 'works' in safe mode and shows no errors. If I do a system restore everything is fine.

Recently I tried to update to the newest drivers hoping that they would work. I downloaded them from EVGA. Same problem. I tried several things including the old drivers in safe mode, deleting their folder, using driver cleaner etc. Still the same issue.

Thinking I needed to blow it up and start over I decided to go for a completely clean install so I installed vista again and started clean.

Sadly this resulted in the same problem but now I don't have a system restore point to go back to. I'm stuck in safe mode only. I would love any ideas on what to do and if possible a link to the first series of drivers for the 9800 GT.

Thanks so much for anyone taking the time to read all that and for anyone who helps!

What's your OS? if it's vista, a reinstall may be in order (it fixed my friends 8800GT problem). Before that, you may want to try removing the card itself, any drivers, installed programs and related stuff. Run some kind of cleaner like CCleaner or some clean uninstaller, then reinstall the card. If you're still getting problems, then just reinstall windows (just the OS, not your hard drive!).
