An 8800Gt would max AoC!

Also only a fool would buy a 9800GX2 with the new NVidia and ATI cards around the corner.

yep big waste of money when a 8800GTS in SLI is on par with a 9800GX2.

Forget that the new cards are coming next month and just think for a second. You have spent 2 days looking for one of these, and I guess that you wont find one today so that is 3 days of looking in shops. On the other hand if you ordered it online when you started looking in the shops it would be there tomorrow.

Slower but not by too much. An 8800GT in SLI is slighty slower then the 9800GX2 and we know a 9600GT in SLI is slightly slower then a 8800GT in SLI. Point being the 9 Series is a waste of money.

yes but not by much. Thay will be better then the 8 series. Each generation is only slighty faster then the previous. This is why you just jump in and buy a card of the current gen and in a year upgrade again. Sure during the year faster cards will come out but they won't be worth the money because the actual gain isn't too big. The only exception to this is when a Big significant technology comes out like a Pixel Shader 5.0

yeah i think im getting that 9600Gx 2 (or 9800 GTX since Gx2 is only slightly more powerful than Gtx + cheaper) and the price might even drop when the new cards come.

The 8800 gt in SLI is slightly faster than 9800 gx2. The 9600 gt SLi is the same as 9800gx2 perfomance wise but very slightly behind 8800 gt SLi but quite cheaper. The 9600 gt is the only good thing that came out of the 9 series, but its awesome bang for the buck.

generally the last top model is the power of the new model, though this only stands for the original top model not GX2s, X2s or the superly overclocked versions they do at the end of the range.

If a GX2 is realeased for the new series it'll be about 1.5 times the power of the 9800GX2. The new top model won't beat the GX2 on stats but in games it'll probebly give a small advantage but the GX2 may still have still have the advantage at top resolutions.

The gtx280 should be at least 30% faster at any res without aa. 9800gx2 will get demolished at high res with aa.

Every other generation is usually a huge difference.

5 series to 6 was a big step up.

6-7 small step.

7-8 huge step.

8-9 small step.

GTX200 should be another huge step. Sites who are currently testing the card say its a night and day difference.

Oh no I guess that would make me a fool...OR money just isnt an option for me. Fact is with my PC I'm currently maxing every game available and getting a steady frame rate (yes crysis at 30fps +). But oh well, I'll probably buy a 9900 when they come out, or quad SLi my 9800gx2, seeing as they will come down in price. OR i wait until i cant run all games (next year?) then upgrade (hopefully next series will be out then).

Even so, don't generalise that people are 'fools' for buying the card they want, because some people can actually afford to buy every new card that comes out =D

^ ya a whole 1-3 fps higher average is worth another $350 or an extra $100-200 . Some people were dumb by going out and buying a 9800GTX when there 8800 GT/GTS/GTX was doing their job and were on par with that card or better. The 9 series were a joke for the most part. The only good that came out of that was the 9600 for budget and the 9800gx2 for single slot motherboards.

Thanks for your opinion, it's greaty appreciated ! I guess being able to afford frequent upgrades makes me a fool. I really wish I couldnt afford them, that way I'd be stuck with the same system for years *thumbs up*. Good logic sir.

I was refering to your smug condescending demeanor and that you seeming don't realize that he was refering to the average consumer who has modest income and means that make a GX2 purchase foolish (especially in light of an impending release). Not everyone can be a pampered brat suckling at father's teat.

EDIT: Oh, and you're welcome.

Haha now you're making assumptions about how I get my money? I actually work full time. I put away half my pay every week in savings for a house etc when I'm older. I also pay rent and pay off a car loan, as well as general expenses.

And he actually didnt mention that, he stated that everyone would be foolish for purchasing a 9800 GX2. Therefore, the way I posted was in defense of being called such fool. I'm sorry if that seems offensive or rude, but everyone's entitled to make their own decisions on how they spend their money.

I am a little confused. If you have SO much money and can afford to upgrade every 6 months, why did you wait so long to upgrade from that ancient 7800.

What no 8800 GTX, no 8800 Ultra, no 3870 X2, cause that what you WOULD have gone through if you upgraded every 6 months.

Because when the 7800 come out I was still in high school. When I got my full time job I decided to wait 3 months for the 9 series cards to come out. So now that I have a full time job and a decent budget, I can afford these things. Anything else in personal life you'd like to know while we're at it?

I'm not? Because you're actually physically sitting at my pc and KNOW that I'm not maxing crysis. I'll correct myself, I dont have AA maxed out...

Considering my old pc was running a 7800, the 9800GX2 was a big jump for me and I'm happy with it regardless of your opinions. And the fact is most people cant afford to upgrade their cards every 6 months, but I can, so I dont really care.

Because I have seen the 9800GX2 benchmarks 8P.
