I'm buying a laptop soon and I was wondering how a 9800M GT, and HD3870 512MB fare against the 360 games?
Also what settings could I be playing crysis or Far Cry 2 if I go with Dual HD3870? Is High Settings possible?

they woul dbe a lot better, but the 9800GT would be far faster than the HD3870Chris_53
All I have to say is that the 360 version of GTA IV runs and looks better then GTA IV does on my PC and I have a Phenom X4 @ 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, and a Overclocked 9800GTX. Everything was on medium because trying high textures requires over a gig of V-RAM I believe and I was getting frames in the 20s and even then the 360 version looked better. Its not till you run the game on high till it looks better then the 360 version and to do that ... its not going to happen. Plus I'm using the new patch for the GTA IV PC version shadows kills my performance.

its not even a case of hardware power, but lack of optimization on the part of Rockstar. its pretty poor if you ask me what theyve done to the PC version.[QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"][QUOTE="Chris_53"]they woul dbe a lot better, but the 9800GT would be far faster than the HD3870yoyo462001

yes I belive xbox360 uses something like a 512mb ati 1950 or 1600 the only reasons games need more power on pcs is because the companies dont work on themkemar7856the 360 uses an altered older RV core from the X1900 series.. and nvidiagamer, no wonder arguing, youl just fight back in some BAD way or another.. il just say that me and the rest of the internet all find that GTAIV on PC maxed with shadows on medium looks way better than the 360

lol you dont understand AA, or AF do you, and the trees dont have more leaves on them, they are more defined and dont look like green blogs..secondtly slightly brighter, but way better hdr (high dynamic range) lighting and shadowing..
also the console versions use motion blurr (look at the cars) to try and get rid of the jaggies (which it doesnt) instead of using actual AA, which the consoles cant really handle. sorry you seem to either be blind, or in denial

Its only a slight improvement and its not even the best looking console game (MGS 4 and Gears 2 look better). Now then motion blur adds to the realism and theres no point having a $1000 pc to play something on the same quality for $200. Thats being blind.

i garruntee that any game you put on your ps3 or xbox360 is no comparision to the power of my pc, much less some of the better ones out there...
you sound like a console fanboy..
i will agree that gears and mgs4 look better than gta4, hell mgs4 was one of the better games i played on any system, including pc, but doesnt look near as good as pc sorry, if mgs4 were to come out on pc, and it was ported crap like gta 4 or so many other games that devs lazily port over, it would stomp the ps3 version.
your 360 and ps3 have how many games?? couple hundred?? pc has over 15,000 games, not to mention i can actually enjoy RTS games, and have 60 fps with AA and hdr lighting, i would like for you to show me any game on the consoles that can do that....
also i like mmo games, what do the consoles have for that? hmm, ff11?
so if your gonna bring cost into the equation where is the hdtv for your consoles? if you leave it out, then how can you even remotely compare standard definition tv console playing, to super hd, and full hd gaming on pc???????
so who is blindly following the market?????? and i can constantly upgrade my pc to stay with the times... and my pc games cost way less than yours do even at launch,, and after a few months, pc games can usually be found between the 25-35 dollar mark you show me any decent ps3 or 360 game a few months after launch that have that....
so if your bringing cost into the equation look at it from a whole instead of just how much the pc and the console cost.

Was talking about Nvidiagamer.[QUOTE="Lach0121"]To Sordidus... i do apologize, none of my posts were meant for you, they were meant for nvidiagamer.. the guy you were quoting, i just hit the quote button on the wrong post.Sordidus
That's ok lol. The only console I have it's a Xbox360 with the RROD lol I had a PS2 in the past and give it to a friend. In my opinion consoles are good to gather friends to play soccer and fighter games like Soul Calibur, that's all lol.
i had both ps3 and 360, ps3 never any problems, just wasnt the gaming system it was hyped up to be, 360 was much more fun, but i went thru a few of them, and i take care of them, keep them clean and ventillated..
but overall, i needed more power, better graphics, and dedicated servers, and the consoles dont have dedicated servers.
so i ended up selling both ps3 and 360, and im really happy with my pc, wanting to get a new phenom II 940 processor to go in it, boost up performance, and even out my sli bottleneck cause of my 6000+
[QUOTE="Lach0121"][QUOTE="nVidiaGaMer"]Completely wrong its not better and you can't prove it while I can.

actually gta4 on pc looks quite a bit better than on console...
you would have to be blind in order not to see it.

Its just brighter and that doesn't mean it looks better and wow the trees have more leaves on them lmao.
Yeah it's just the brightness and you can turn those up anyway. The 2nd patch for the PC brings in a whole new set of options for the Game. You can turn them higher to make even more demands on your system. I can't even get the view distance to 12 now with the new settings maxed at medium
lol and what graphical options do most console games have???
gamma/brightness....
and gore level, if applicable
havent seen any console games with terrain detail options, or AA options. or AF options. or view distance options. or texture filtering options, hell most dont even have an option for vsync.
im not knocking console gaming, but i will CORRECT people when they say that the pc version and console version look and play the same...
cause it just simply isnt true.... and also take in mind these are ports... from console to pc... not developed on pc, if they were optimized truly for the pc, you would see an even bigger gap between console and pc.
Less options mean less of a hastle. And a locked framerate means no drops GTA IV on PC goes down into the teens when theres lots of explosions.lol and what graphical options do most console games have???

Who gives a **** about what options console version has? Aslong as it looks as good if not better than the pc version.lol and what graphical options do most console games have???

Mine doesn't but I've got a Quad core.
Well so do I its a Phenom X4 @ 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, and a 9800GTX overclocked. I play at 1280x1024 and it lags a lot.

actually quite wrong most of the console games are capped at 30 fps, and they have dips as well.. ive been gaming a very long time... and framerate on games drop no matter what system its on... including console,
take cod4 for example its one of the only 60fps games on consoles, but i have owned it for 360 and pc, and it looks and plays way better on my pc, even without AA, but i have 4x AA on anyways...
seems when people realize they have lost the arguement they try and change direction...

if not better, LMAO right..
secondly read the topic, when people see that their favy system isnt all its cracked up to be anymore, they seem to resort to this...
i use to love 360 and ps3, when 360 came out you couldnt get a pc that would out perform it for under 1500 dollars, this i will agree with, but today you can spend half of taht and get one that will eat it.
people seem to speak about things they have either biased views on, or do not know what they are talking about.

Well you most likely have the settings maxed on high. I run 1600x1200 @ medium textures.
On raw processing power, it would be faster. But this speed is wasted in pc gaming, because nobody will take even half the time to optimize on PC's anymore... not even a quarter of the time that they spend for optimizing on console games. The nice thing with programming for a console is that it compels you to think of creative and efficient solutions to things... the sad state of affairs is that these lessons aren't ever applied with the Windows/Mac/Linux/PC version of the same game, because it seems nowadays any hyped game will just be expected to require a whole new $4k build just to run the thing when it finally comes out.

A lot of the programming on PC these days is unefficient at what it does because it doesn't need to be efficient. When we used to program on old school computers like Vic20 and Commodore 64 we had to write efficient code in the shortest and fastest possible way to fit it into the memory. Today coding is sloppy.
