tomshardware.com has a thing on it .... and is saying it will be announced feb 14th.... does that mean it will be released then???? I will diffenetly be picking this one over the 3870x2 which berely beats the Ultra here is the like

http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/01/05/exclusive_nvidia_geforce_9800gx2/

they say it will be 30% better than the Ultra at $450 ... i cant wait to get this.. here is the review that tomshardware did about the 3870x2 ... as you can tell by the last page ... its nothing special ...... the 9800x2 will blow it out of the water.

it's something like 8800GT in SLI. Maybe slightly better in some games.

At 450$ will be a great value because at same price HD3870X2 is slower than 8800GT SLI

450$ would be fantastic. I sure hope for that price, though i somehow thought it will be alot more expensive than that, but who knows.

I heard it was delayed until March, that might be a generic announcement or something.

it requires only one pci-e x16 2.0/1 slot, but be aware, that it's dual slot cooler will take alot of space and it's called dual slot, because it's as big as two normal ones that fit both in two slots like CF or SLI

for $450 I'd pick one up... but lets come back down to earth, there's no way Nvidia is going to sell this thing for less than the ultra. what might happen is when it releases the ultra price with drop but there is no way they're going to release this thing for less than $550.

personally I'm going with the 3870x2, good price and from the reviews at high res maxed aa and af this thing is impressive. which means if ati does get they're act together and releases some good drivers it could (and already does) beat everything out there. FOR $450!!! how much was the ultra again?

anandtech:

hardwarecanuks

techpowerup:

so considering it's performance in certain games you can tell that it's way more powerful than any nvidia card out right now, any game it does get beat in is obviously driver related

first off .... it took ati 2 of their best cards to beat the Ultra by 2 frams ... if you look at the second link i posted .... second off ... $450 seems about right because it is basically 2 8800GT's ..... this will blow the 3870x2 out of the water at the same price .... i just hope it comes out on feb 14th .... but i dont know if the announcement day is the same as the release day.

I dont think that 9800gx2 will be for 450$ or else any retailers who have Ultra/GTX will lose all of their business. Dont forget that AMD & Intel listen to the manufacturers about releasing date and how will that affect their work. This was the same case for x48 chipset getting delayed to March because ASUS/Gigabyte have hell stock of x38 left.

Better cards come out for less money all the time. The 8800GTS 640 is still more expensive than the 512 version. I'm not saying it's going to be $450, but it doesn't seem like nVidia is overly concerned with a rigid structure of performance/price.

The 640GTS is more expensive than the 8800GT and is the same price as the 512MB GTS.

Ok people don't realize that ATi's 3000 series is not competing against the 9800, ATi has been trying to get back on it feet after it was taken over by AMD, both is 2000 series(2400, 2600, 2900) and the 3000 series were delayed in relase times so they compete well against the card they were designed to combat, so there current aim was to offer an affordable alternative in the mid-range market, to get the normal 3870 for around the $250 price point is good bang for ones buck. That and you can crossfire up to 4 3870X2 that means 8 cores insead of Nvidias 4 cope SLi with the 9800. To compete with the 9800 line ATi 4000 series will be releasing not too far behind it (expect betwen march and May, not sure which) and the 4000 series is expected to have up to 4 cores on a single card

So much wrong information in your post...
The 3*00 series was EARLY.
You CANNOT CF more than two HD3870x2s.
R700 sounds like it will only have two cores on it, MCM, but each core offers a 50% increase in performance over the RV670.
