Hello, I bought the witcher a couple of days ago and so far I really like it... But I have an issue. I used in the prologue the Aard sign (cliking on the right button mouse) during the prologue and with the dog beast. But now the icon is in Grey and if I click on the right button , nothing happens. I tried to rest for some hours to see if you need to meditate to be able to cast it again but no luck. What should I do to be able to use it again?

Also, my inventoty is full and I have just started the 1 chapter...full of food and beers...should I stop collecting this minor items?

Another question, is it good to pick up the axes and to carry them around? I always use the steel sword as you can do the witchers movements. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure what part of the game you are in, but if your in a "safe" area you wont be able to use your signs like aard. If that isnt the problem then I really dont know what to say.

I found it nice to keep a few pieces of food on me during the early parts of the game when wasting a health potion was out of the question. The beer is useless though, unless you see that the item can be used for a potion base. Only high quality alcahol can be used to make potions. You should stock up on those, but throw the regular beer away. Unless u wanna get wasted!

The axes dn't have much use until later in the game. durign the first 2-3 chapters you carry an axe mostly for show. I carried one just because I thought Geralt looked cooler with an axe swinging from his hip. Later on in the game, you will start to run into enemies that wear LOTS of armor and carry huge shields. Your normal swords wont work against the shields, but the axe has a high chance to get rid of it. So a good tactic to use is axe > axe > swords. But it's only useful against enemies with shields, and like i said, you don't start fighting them until later in the game

hope that helps

Hmmm I dont know about the sign issure you have. Sorry, sounds like a bug almost

As for the inventory, ya, stop collecting the minor items. I ran into this too my first time. But when I went back the second time, I only picked up specific things:

1. Quest items
2. Anything that can be sold for a reasonable price (beast parts, gems and jewelry, etc)
3. Alchemy related things (herbs, plants, strong alcohol

As for food, I didnt pick any up. its a waste of space, and the Swallow potions are both easy to make and heal better. The only food related thing I picked up were strong alcohols that can be used as bases in potions (it will tell you in the description if it can be used, i.e. wine is not a base, but vodka is).

oh ya forgot to add something. Keep some beer on you as instead of bribing or threatening people, you can get drunk with them instead! Only use one type of beer, though, so it makes one nice stack. If you have like five different beers, thats four wasted slots since iirc the NPCs dont discriminate between alcohol.

Have fun!

Also, maybe try reloading the game before you had this sign problem.

As for the question, the individual that stated the fact that you are in daytime/safe zone is correct. The signs/magic only light up when they can be used.....i also came across this and worried for a moment, then realized what was going on.....

Can only enter combat if you are attacked, and when there are claw marks on the time icon.

You can store your stuff with the innkeeper of all inns, in the game.... Sell off daggers and axes, for cash to blacksmith or pawnshop. They are useless, because they can't be used with the witcher combat style. Store weapons with the innkeeper if you wish to hold onto them. Don't carry them as a secondary weapon because there are a few quests in this game that make you drop your secondary weapon for a quest based weapon...and you'll end losing your secondary weapon....that is, unless, you know before hand, which quest does that.

Many Thanks for your help...actually the Sign thing was a bug...I reloaded an older game and it was fine.

Thanks for all the tips on the inventory...

ACTUALLY...I am amazed this game only had 67% in PC GAMER UK ... I have been following that magazine for the last 5 years and I really like it. The articles are well written and the reviews are very reliable. The usually give fair reviews. But the review of this game was really lame. I almost ditch the game because of this review. Actually I bought it cause all I heardonly positive things in this forums. And now I am having a blast playing this game... it is almost the first time since I buy the magazine that they ditch a game that I really like. I think that the reviewer actually didn't go through the whole game...

my respect for PCGAMER UK after playing this game is lower...
