Alright, I want to upgrade my PSU and graphics card, but I don't know all that much about how all of this works, so I have a couple of questions.

First of all, my current computer:http://www.dabs.com/products/fujitsu-siemens-li3745-quad-core-2-5ghz-4gb-500gb-dvdrw-vistahp-5FSB.html(Specs: Q8300 2,5ghz quad core, NVIDIA GeFore GT120 1gb ram, 4gb DDR2/800mhz ram, has a PCI express slot, says the PSU supplies 400W though i think my only provides 350W.)

The CPU I want to upgrade to:http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MTIyMA==(Antec Basiq BP500U 500W Continuous Power ATX12V Version 2.01 Active PFC Power Supply)

The Graphics card I'd like to upgrade to:http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=138(Gainward 9800GT 512MB "Green Edition")

Now for the questions:

1. Do you think these parts will fit in my case (Micro tower, like it says in the link), and are these parts compatible with my computer and with each other?

2. Is the PSU powerful enough for the parts I will be using?

3. Are these parts any good?

4.Are there better parts for about the same price (around 150-180 dollars)?

5. Will I need to buy additional cords or other things to connect everything and make sure everything works (like frigid liquid for the graphics card)?

6. Do you know of any good guides on how to put together a computer or these parts specifically, please post them, because I really don't know what Im doing.

Thank you for reading, if there is anything you would like to know that's relevant to the situation, please ask and I will do my best to find out. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm trying to not do any work myself, but I'm not sure what I need to know exactly to make sure everything fits together, so I greatly appreciate your replies. (Sorry for any spelling errors or incorrect or much too frequent uses of "to", or any other grammatical mistakes.)

k well i found a location to try regretably i cannot read. so i recommend trying here and finding something nice.

gpu's wotn normally matter and the psu shouldnt aswell but id keep your eyes out for the hd 5670 from ati its a little better for around the same price. so why fight it hmm?

and try and get something with an active pfc or 80+ certification this at leats means its a good part to build on (if you can). otherwise those two would probably be fine.

given that i put one into my buddies pc the 9800gt does very well

as for instructions for video card installation. your case comes apart in its own unique way generally its just screws. hes got some bad jokes though and some of them i feel should have been removed.

here this guy can help. and i quote"you could get your grandma to do it".

The card Im looking at (Sapphire Radeon HD5670 512MB) connects to a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot, does that mean I can't connect it to a regular PCI Express slot?

KH-nerd

not really in fact it uses considerably less (about ooh 2/3rd's the power needed for a 9800gt)

which is another reason i recommended ati in the first place all their stuff in and below this are of preformance runs on little to no power. like 7 years ago their hd 2400pro.. i joke you not rcould be run on a pair of hotwired AA batteries :P

Awesome, thank you so much! I will definitely be getting the 5670 then! You can change between ATI and NVIDIA without having to replace anything, right? And it will work with an Intel processor?

with an intel processor fine. as for the nvidia gpu. there are some thing you will need to take care of their as for what sorry cant say i went the other way around which was without fuss. but basically it would just involve uninstalling the nvidia control panel first beofre doing anything.

So it's only got to do with software, no new hardware or anything extra I need to purchase?

KH-nerd

everything should come with the card or the psu already be sure to have a phillips head screwdriver at the ready (+ head) for the installation process.

Do you happen to know how much power the 9500GT uses? Or even better, do you know if a 350W PSU would be enough for the 5670?

yeah should be fine

5670 on a 350 watt eh you might be able to pull it off but id need to know the psu's entire specs. if you have a link to it thatd be appreciated. but like if your talking about your stock psu.. odds are no it wont sorry.

KH-nerd

9500gt uses 50 watts of power (on average) an hd 5670 uses (on average) 61 if your curious a 9800gt uses roughly 90 watts of power (on average)

but you also need to consider the rest of your system (given your system id set aise at least 275-300

Damn, I have no idea what brand my PSU is, probably some crappy brand though. How much power would I need to be safe? Would a PSU with 450W and with the 80+ thing from Fractal design be good enough? Do you know if Fractal Design are any good?

nope sorry in fact almost every brand out their would probably be foreign to me but to get an 80+ cert means it can handle system that far surpass yours (core i5/i7 systems with one or more video cards). so yeah id say have at it with that one.

tbh there are far too many brands of power supply. over here i ahve ones youve probably never seen and generally brand isnt important if the product meets the requirements. hec, safe power, delta, diablotek, corsair, ocz, pc power & cooling, antec, cooler master, xfx, bfg, xion, silver stone, arctic(arctic cooling), raidmaster, albatross, sunbeam, albatron, chaintek, thermaltake, coolamax, there are a few thousand psu makers in the world. its no suprise no ones ever bothered to rate them or list them all.
