I'm looking to build my own custom PC. I can pretty easily put it together, but I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to buying parts. Basically, I want to use it for gaming. Some basics info is around 3 gig of ram, a good graphics card and processors and 200-500gig HDD.

Can someone just post a list of exactly what I should buy, keeping the budget below $1000 AUS.

My rig (see sig) cost about 850AUD a couple of months ago, so you could probably get something cheaper now. for the best prices, try MSY (msy.com.au). sure they have a crap website, but if there's one near you go instore and get the staff's advice, but you should probably have your own idea first. I'd get at least an 8800gt and definetly an intel CPU. good luck.

Is it a gaming rig? or a casual internet computer?.

If it is. I suggest that you go for the best GPU out there, there is no such thing as a cheap gaming pc. That is if you want to be blown away by the technology that the next generation games has to offer, which no console can top.

Anything extra I need to buy. Of course HDD, heatsink, keyboard and mouse, but anything else I've overlooked?

Also, for a HDD I was thinking this. http://www.pcparts.net.au/Samsung-400GB-HD400LD-IDE-p-325.html

Anything better/cheaper?

Why do you say that? What is wrong with the DS3R? The DS3L is not on that site anyways, but the DS3R, is the better board IMHO. Bigger NB heatsink, more SATA ports, and RAID.

And that 450w is more than enough for that rig and quite a few upgrades.

I'm going to go with this as is, but I'm thinking of going with 4gig of RAM instead of 2gig. This to be specific.

Is there anything at all I should buy alongside this? I just want to be 100% sure I have everything.

Also, is this a good price for a HDD?

Don't take the overpriced 8800GT from BFG. Go with Galaxy instead: it's 50$ cheaper in the same store and it has better cooling. Plus, Core Duo E8200 (if you dare to overclock it) would be a better choice for gaming than Q6600 and it's also ~50$ less. As for motherboard, MSI P35 Neo-f should be good enough and it's cheaper. Do you REALLY need all those SATA and RAID capabilities? Don't take the 'value' RAM you proposed- a it higher quality would be only ~15$ and it would allow you to push your proccesor more to its limits (overclocking isn't so hard and it can give you as much as 1 GHZ (or even more) for free). Also, don't take the HDD with 8 MB cache
