Since I just got a new computer, it's finally allowing me to play the online MMORPG's which i never could on my other computer. Only question is, which one should i play? I've been searching for days, but i can never find a good one. When i do, the thing that turns me away is the near 1gig download. The thing is, i have slow internet. I could get my hands on one if i was desperate, which is why i am here. I don't want to waste a heap of time downloading something for it to not be good. I want a game which will be fun to play and will last for a long time. Preferrably one with good pvp.

I'd buy the Diablo games or Team Fortess 2 if you want something to last...the only good free MMO I ever played was maple story..I'd try that one but seriously there are so many other good games to play if you just invest another 50$ or less depending on age..

Maple Story is your best bet though

I have been leaning towards getting Guild Wars quite a bit... it looks like it's the right type for me, but i'm not certain.

you should try tibia, but i don't know if you will like it. Its a 2D game but it's fun to play if you find the right people to play with. Since you like pvp, you should like tibia, since on every server there are massive wars going on usually.

I can only attest to Guild Wars because that's the only FREE mmorpg that I ever played. I played it 3 months straight and I had a blast, but I eventually got bored. It was great while it lasted though.

I've read about guild wars, and it says i need a key of some sort to install it, which i need to get from promotions or buying a certain product of some sort. Can anyone give any information on getting one of these 'keys'?

Try 9 Dragons, it's the only free MMO that I played for a decent amount of time, if you like martial arts :P.

Guild Wars is free to play but not free to start. You have to buy the software, which includes the needed key, before you can play. It is considered free to play because there is no additional fees after that. In other words, Guild Wars is not free, only "free to play". Unless you can find one of those "promotions" you mention to get a key, in which case you'd not need to purchase anything.

Every freaking single free MMO sucks. You want proof? Look at how many people ask for one. If some were any good, you would know about them. End of story. Also, if you play them hardcore and buy all the cash items you would pay a LOT more then you would a normal MMO. Just pay mothly for a good one or or keep your mouth shut.

Remember, when a online game is free... it's because it sucks so bad they couldn't get people to play it other wise. The best you will get is Guild Wars and it's buy to play. You already buy $1000 worth of toys and $70 games what is $15 a month to you? It's the cost of eating at a sit down food joint, buy two tickets for you and your girl/friend/s, or a single days worth of playing games at a fair.

Normal games are not free. Why would MMOs, the most expansive productive all video games, would be? Free games also give people who buy items huge advantages and they have little to no in game support because they're cheap. If you still don't believe just try any game from this huge list: http://mmohub.org/

I'm going to copy and paste this into every single damn thread asking for a free MMO until people finally get it
