starcraft 1. The sequel is not much different, which is why I am not a big fan.

Yep, the original StarCraft. The core of the sequel is relatively similar, which is why I'll love it.

Thats not like starcraft at all... if anything it would be dawn of war 1, command & conquer is vaguely similar i would say.

Except World in Conflict isn't anything like Starcraft 2, is it?

Anyway, I'd agree with the users above and say the original Starcraft. Although the sequel changes quite a few things, the original is probably the closest you'll get to seeing if you'll enjoy the game in question.

To be honest, I hated Starcraft 2 because I've jump in too recently. When you're used to play AoE 3, Dawn of War 2, Company of Heroes, it is hard to come back to an old game (at least for me...). But I played the Beta of Starcraft 2 and it's simply awesome.

If you like the RTS genre and you don't mind about a Sci-fi universe/ambiance, it is certain you will find something interesting enough into Starcraft 2 to make you buy the game. It's a RTS about Base Buildings, not about squad management like Company of Heroes and/or Dawn of War 2. It's more like Red Alert 2 or C&C... but still. Starcraft is pretty unique to be honest.

It's the same in every "Can I have a game like X" thread. Someone comes in and goes "HURRDURR HALO IS FPS TOO SO HALO IS GOOD IF YOU LIEK ARMA". There aren't many games that play like Starcraft, there are similarities in the genre obviously but SC is quite unique. Your best bet is to try SC:BW and then just imagine it with better graphics and a lot more modernized. Control groups can have unlimited units, workers rally to minerals automatically etc, but it's still Starcraft.

Not at all man. DoW2 is good sure but it aint no SC2 man. Id suggest Command and Conquer 3, Age of Empire 2-3, Supreme Commander, MAYBE Company of Heroes. MAYBE.
