Hey, I've recently been searching for an RPG with lush green landscapes, waterfalls, bright and sunny, that kind of thing. SOmething not depressing or moody, just a bright sort of game. (No kids games though).

I've already played-

Kingdoms of Amular

Skyrim

Oh and no MMO's, Thanks for any suggestions :)

ive always enjoyed the landscapes of divinity II:TDKS

id personnaly wait on guildwars 2.. while an MMO it 1) has no monthly fee if thats whats kept you out and 2) has some of the msot epic scenes ever.. allow me to demonstrate:

If you like Skyrim, have you tried Oblivion (especially with visual mods)?

I bought Oblivion: GOTY Deluxe edition a while back but never installed it. Is it worth an install do you think? (I've heard skyrim betters in it in every way)

Probably be pretty hard to go back to oblivion after playing skyrim, might be worth it to check out the story, but that's about it

Dear Esther is pretty much nothing BUT beautiful landscapes. Literally. It's not really even a game, just pretty landscapes you walk through while listening to narration. If you must have RPGs though, Morrowind with one of the graphics mods compilations out there looks phenomenal. Witcher 2 also has a nice forested area in the first third of it. KOTOR has some pretty areas although it also has a lot of grungy ones as well. TERA Online is pretty much what you want although it is an MMO which may or may not be up your alley. And while it's not a game for the PC, FFX is probably the most vividly colored, serene RPG out there with lots of tropical island scenery, large plains, glimmering crystal forests, and that sort of thing.

Morrowind and Oblvion looked pretty good, esp w/ mods. Risen looked great too, but I didn't play through the game, so I can't say if it was like that for the whole game. Divinity II: DKS looked good for the first half of the game, but was pretty bland for the second half.

TW2 has some amazing scenery. Skyrim has great landscapes and when it's modded it can be pretty sweet.

I also recommend Two Worlds 2 and Risen. Though I said it many times, I feel Risen starts goingdown hill in almost every possible way half way through.

I remember Drakensang having some good landscapes and environments if you can stand the slow pace.

Morrowind looks pretty good even given the age factor.

Mass Effect 2 has some great landscaping when it's not just rocks and boulders and even then they still looks pretty good.

Dear Esther is practically THE landscape looker game so check that out.

Based on what I've seen the new Tomb Raider is looking to be quite a looker so check that one out.

Far Cry 3 also is looking verily cool and awesome.

For what they are, Minecraft and Terraria also have soem really amazing landscaping.

Shogun 2 is said to have amazing looking battlefields that can run on like DX 11 and such. I have played the demo (damn full game hates me) so I can vouch for how amazing the game looks.

Trine 2 is just beautiful.

Dead Island looks quite lovely, imo.

Oh and Sanctum looks really, really good, imo. That's Sanctum the FPS/Tower Defence hybrid game, btw.

Other than that....not coming up with anything else. Most of the games are new but that's whats fresh on my mind. :P

I just played through Dear Esther the other day (it's only 2-3 hours, maybe even less depending on how much exploring you do), and I'm in the process of writing a review for it. It's really interesting, to say the least. It's true, there is almost nothing about it that makes it a game. You don't interact with anything, you just walk around and when you hit certain spots you trigger a narrator who tells fragmented bits of a story that is at times macabre, emotional, and downright poetic. The guy's voice is great, and he does a wonderful job of conveying the emotion behind the words. Also, the music is just fantastic. All really slow, piano-strings-gothic opera style singing style stuff, and very very well done. The scenery is great, and is really what drives you along. I thought for sure I'd get bored fast, but by 30 minutes in, I was genuinely excited and interested to get to that next cave on the other side of the field, and see what's inside. I took damn near 20 screenshots at various points because I wanted them as my desktop background. Here's a couple.

It's a first person game so it's best played with M/KB, but at the same time it's not like there's anything in the game that requires quick or accurate aiming (hell, you don't ever aim at anything to begin with) so it doesn't really matter. All you do in the game is walk around and look at whatever you want to look at it while trying to figure out what's going on, that's it.

Yeah, literally the only controls are "move" (typical WASD setup on kb), look with the mouse, and you can zoom in slightly with either the left mouse button or E. I imagine it would be perfectly fine with whatever you're comfortable with. Also, on a side, there's a field of view slider in the video options. Max it out. Even if that's wide enough that it would be awkward with more action, there is no action, and you're gonna want the widest view you can get of some of the awesome landscapes.

Sacred 2 sounds like your game. The game world is huge and most of it is lush and green with some great scenery.

HyperWarlock

I would hardly describe Skyrim "lush green" unless you have FXAA injectors and other flora mods installed. If you are patient, you can try Guild Wars 2 when it comes out unless you only want a single player experience.

I know it's not an RPG but Crisis 1 still looks beautiful if you crank the settings all the way up. Also, have you played Dragon Age 1? Great looking game but is a part of the 'dark fantasy' trend.

Haha yup. DAO had many varied settings, unlike DA2. Too bad DAO suffered from bad graphics, but some parts looked really good despite the visual setback.
