I've done my fair share on research for computers and TVs, but know absolutely nothing on sound. I don't want to buy an expensive $400 surround sound system, my maximum budget would be $100-$150. What would be a good surround sound system in that price range? Any good name brands would be nice(not expensive like BOSE though), and I want to go as cheap as possible. Just sound that is better than what you get on your standard TV speakers.

It's pretty hard to find Surround Sound at that price, a good entry level would be closer to $300, like the Logitech Z-5500 set. Their lower line would be in your price range, The logitech z-5300e set which you could find four about $100. Hopefully someone else has some better suggestions. Maybe at that price though you could consider high end headphones? Tritton Ax360 headphones are quite versatile.

I don't know, high end headphones are at least $500ish for "consumer" high end headphones.

$150 is not much of a budget. There are a few sets that cheap, but they have very very limited input options.

I have two good options for you. I have used both and both are great deals for the money as long as you know what you are buying. Honestly, you get what you pay for.

First try this Sony Surround Sound System . It works very well for games and movies and is very easy to setup. Only problems for me has been the size of the receiver, its huge and heavy. But other than that, the sound was great for gaming and sounded great when I watched 300 with it. For less than $200, its a great deal for even a moderately sized room.

This second choice is really for personal gaming. These surround sound headphonesare excellent if you are only interested in making the experience good for yourself. They are a bit heavy, but still very comfortable for long play periods. I loved these while playing Splinter Cell Double Agent, clumsy spies always gave themselves away with these on. I got mine for about 80 bucks on sale, though I don't think you can get them that cheap anymore.

Hope that helps. Send me a message if you have any questions.

Well my room isn't necessarily small, but I have to be able to hang or mount these speakers. Say with regular Cable programming, do all 5 speakers work, or just the front ones? I know that DVDs and Games would work with all 5 speakrs, but how does it really work?
