What is a good PC that is useable for gaming; mainly RPGS simular to Fallout 3 or The Elder Scrolls, RTS games like Tiberium Twilight, Supreme Commander 2 or games that have resonable content? "Metaphoricly" I'm a High school freshmen, who I have not gotten any computer classes, I do not know how to make my own rig. I have a $600-$900 Budget. Please give me some advise and where could I buy one or a recoomended manufactuer of gaming rigs. Please only Gaming rig manufactuers, no PCs from companies like Gateway or Intel. Please give me any recommended specs as well.

Is Newegg a good site for already manufactured gaming PCS?

I built my first computer when I was in sophomore year of high school with a friend's help (funny how I learned of his mistakes as well). It's hardly difficult and complicated (the motherboard manual generally documents all the steps) and addition to guides you can find online. While was pretty leery (especially because I had never spent so much money in one place) about it at first, but once you completed it, I realized I would never buy a prebuilt again. Sorry, but I have little experience with prebuilt companies and my advice probably wouldn't be that credible because I don't use them too much.

Both are really good, just find one that is good with your price. Either will be amazing for gaming.

are you talking about Fallout 3/Just cause 2 open world games? Or games with big file sizes? File size just means you need more storage.

Yes, games like Fallout 3, I play game that have simular to "open world games" or large requirement games.

I had a small expairement, and this is how I comfigured a rig I spent only a few minates on:

  • CPU: AMD Athlon™II X4 630 Quad-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology
  • HDD: Single Hard Drive (750GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD [+26])
  • MOTHERBOARD: MSI 770-G45 AM3 770 Chipset CrossFireX Support DDR3 Socket AM3 ATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB2.0, SATA-II, RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe, 1 PCIe X1, & 3 PCI [+6]
  • MEMORY: 2GB (1GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Module (Corsair or Major Brand)
  • SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
  • VIDEO: ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR2 16X PCIe Video Card [DirectX 11 Support] [+19] (Major Brand Powered by ATI)
No matter if it's good or bad. I have no "ball park" so to speak of. I don't know what would be good or bad, I need an example.

5450 is a very weak card, it won't be able to handle any modern games at decent FPS with any respectable settings. Do you mind building your own one? Or if you do, you can order the parts and ask an IT guy nearby to assemble it for you. It will be cheaper and better that way.

I see, but The problem is I don't know any IT guys. I can try to make one but I would need a tutorial. If that 5450 is a weak card, can anyone give me a good ATI card that would be substantial for high requirement games like RPG or something... FPS is also a good genre I play. for anyone else I don't have an existing computer, so i start from scratch. I'm sticking to ATI for now. I really need an example for a rig or video/graphics card that shows use for game that would come in the future or modern games.

You don't need anyone professional, I just had had a fellow student help me. If you haven't noticed but at the top of this forum there is a tutorial for how to assemble a computer. Additionally, if you are looking for a good video card, the lowest I would recommend would be the HD 5770.

Or the 4850/GTS 250. Thats the lowest I would consider, and you could probably get them for $100 USD if you find a good deal.

IF your going on a 32 bit OS your ram is fine but 64bit I would get 4gb ram. THe lowest vid card ment for games that I would get is the 4670. The 5670 5750 adn 5750 are all good choices depending on what you want to spend. Also I would skip the 4870 and get the 5770 since they are the same price. Dont forget your OS! WIn 7 you should get since its the newest win. Not becuase its the best OS. (which it isnt) Also if you can get a 5850 get it.

I *think* (cant really tell, you need to link those, or at least space them out) that you need some DDR3 RAM instead of DDR2. Also, I would look for an OCZ power supply.

HD5850 is more than twice as powerful as a HD5770, and I was able to fit in a 900$ish window(Yea I know I went overboard, but still). It will give you a much better experience.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but none of these seem to regard a monitor as being necessary. At least that it was Capt. Obvious was whispering to me.

My opinion... Get a solid video card in the $100 range and be happy with it. If you come by more money, upgrade it, but in that price range you can generally get a reasonably well performing card. The monitor - well, that is a piece of hardware that can actually survive multiple video card generations if you invest wisely.

I have salvaged a monitor, speakers, a normal keyboard, and mouse. DO I need a controller? Is HD5770 OK?
