I bought NWN 2 on release day (I'd been waiting to buy it for nearly a year).
On my 3ghz Pentium 4 Neverwinter 2 barely ran at 1680*1050. The game, at launch, wasn't fully cooked, and this caused a lot of gamers to be frustrated. Also, a lot of people, believe it or not, didn't like the water-color graphics, although personally I loved them, which made it even more frustrating that I had to turn down so many graphics options.
NWN 2, however, has been patched and patched, and re-patched, so many times now that it's a very stable game, and will run like a dream on current hardware. I just bought a PC last month and have been thinking about returning to it. In a way, I'm glad that Dragon Age (the reason I bought my new PC in the first place) was cancelled, because I suspect (or rather, I hope) that once I've seen Dragon Age there will be no going back to NWN 2.
I'm viewing Dragon Age as being NWN 3 - it's not, of course, but that's how I'm looking at it.
The funny thing about NWN 2 is that although it was one of my most anticipated games in years, and although I loved playing it (the first two weeks in particular were sublime), I never actually finished it. It's a very long game.
