That's a good computer. You could play Crysis on High settings no problem. The dual drives aren't necessary, and really only helpful if copying from one disc and burning to another.

Eh, all the benchmarks I've seen for the 8800GT in Crysis show that he'd be better off with a mix of medium and high settings. I mean he could put everything on high and play at 1280x1024, but he'd have to put up with a sub-30 FPS frame-rate. Still, Crysis will run well once you adjust the settings, and it will still easily be the best looking game you've ever played.

As has been said before, you could easily play Crysis on High with lower resolutions, but a mix of mostly high and some medium would be best.

Woah! That is terribly overpriced. Is that a Dell? You could easy build that computer for well under $1500. I'd seriously consider exploring building it yourself to save yourself that much money.

It's much simpler than you might think, and with a bit of homework you could build an awesome computer for way less money. There is plenty of information out there and people on forums like this to help answer questions. Really, you wouldn't regret it.

If size doesn't matter I'd go for a 13x7 resolution on the monitor's native resolution. I've seen people get such a good performance out of that res for parts that cost peanuts.

If Vista is really your thing make sure you get 64 bit vista, as you may or may not know vista 32 bit doesn't support the entire 4gb of RAM you're getting.

If you really want to play crysis well now and other games in the next few years you'll be fine sticking with XP. DX10 is too fast for most machines to handle fantastically unless you fork out an astonishing wadd of cash to compensate for a few extras knobs and bits twisted on to call it a new version of DX. I digress...

The q6600 will be better in the future than it is now, basically, if you want to do the futureproofing vista gaming go for the q6600. At the moment the better processor for the same price is the Intel e6850, well worth a look at because quad-core technology is new and not optimised for much other than crysis.

$2200 for that is a ripoff. You could build it yourself for about half that amount. Buy all the parts from Newegg.com. Assembly takes maybe 30 minutes.

looks great for high settings in crysis, but you might like to save yourself some $$$ and get more fps by swaping the q6600 for a e8200/e8400, might only be dual core but games don't use quads yets, so a faster dual is better than a slower quad

I doubt you would notice a difference in performance as Crysis is more taxing on the GPU rather than the CPU. I did upgrade from a opteron to a Q6600 and the performance difference was not noticeable despite being a CPU that scores much higher in the CPU benchmark in Crysis. And that includes upgrading to a much faster mobo and RAM.

Q6600 will last longer and should always be the purchase a head of any dual core, Q6600 will perform brilliantly in all todays games plus games like Alan Wake which will be optimised for quad cores.

Hey mate, I have pretty much that exact setup at the moment (Except I'm running XP Pro 32bit) and I can tell you that I am running Crysis at 1440x900 (19' widescreen native) using Cubans config at level 4 with an average of 36fps in the CPU test and 42fps in the GPU test.

Mind you, I do have a little bit of overclocking as well, however I don't think you will have any problems running crysis on High or Fake DX10 settings.

Yeah dude. If you built that same rig yourself, you probably won't be spending more than $1500.

You'd need all the parts you listed in your first post, plus a case.

Motherboard, Processor, RAM, Video Card, Power Supply, Hard Drive, DVD Drive, and a case. Look for a mid-Tower ATX case.

Ah Cubans config. He did a really good job with that and it makes the game look and play great.

Just a thought.... I built a new computer w/ all parts coming from Newegg a couple days ago for $2060 and this is what I got:

  • 780i motherboard
  • Intel Q6600
  • Zalman 9700NT cpu cooler
  • 2x 8800GTS 512mb SLI
  • 4gb's PC2-8000 G. Skill ram
  • 2x 320gb Samsung Spinpoint HD's (RAID 0)
  • Coolermaster Cosmos case
  • ABS Tagan BZ 800w power supply

It will certainly play Crysis much better than the $2200 PC your looking at.

This is only my 2nd build and I did my first build a few months ago. It isn't that hard to put together because each component comes with its own set of instructions. I highly suggest you go about building your own!

all you do when all the parts are in you go to the bios screen then you make sure everything is running properly. After that you just quit, pop in the operating disk, and load it thats about it heres some more guides on building if you need it

For Vista, just pop in the disc and let it do its thing. It's seriously that easy... pretty much the same for XP too.

It is quite odd how people think building a computer is hard, there are even people so dumb they pay extra for a guy to come round and plug it in for them?! They don't seem to realise its all pretty simple, in most cases its impossible to get wrong as long as youre careful not to damage stuff.

Just built a similar rig for 1500.00

See it here.

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26255430

Also no need for 4 GB if your XP only vista can handle that and I would not use Vista yet.
