I have been a loyal PC gamer for the past 10 years but have also owned both of Sony's previous consoles. Now I am having a tough time in deciding whether to buy a PS3 which has some fantastic exclusives right now like inFamous, Killzone2, etc not to mention the constant flow of games unlike PC gaming which has suffered to an extent due to developers being wary of pirates OR upgrade my Rig which has the following specs

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

4GB DDR2 RAM

Nvidia GeForce 9600GT 512 MB DDR3 RAM

750GB Hard disk Space

OS:Windows Vista 64 bit

I am a student and hence have money constraints. I can go only for one: either a PS3 or upgrading rig. Also how long do you think will be PS3's longevity for gaming?

2012....that seems awfully short (considering that I have to spend 400$:?) though I have to agree that its too much to expect for a console to last more than 5 years. Yeah my rig can still run any game at decent settings but the processor is getting old plus the GPU is not all that great.

you're gonna get to experience bunch of great exclusives that aren't on PC. like MGS4, uncharted 1and 2,infamous,KZ2 heavenly sword, R1 and R2, Folklore, GOW3 and much more. like the above poster said your pc is still good, and right now there aren't many new games that are gonna require you to upgrade you pc.

Sometimes I like to play on my PS3, Socom Confront is my fave, it's kinda better than PC cuz the settings like gaming chair and HD tv and the surround sound. ....voice chat ingame PS3 seems better in a way.... but sometimes I feel like PC more, depends on the day I guess.

Thats exactly why I am tempted to buy a PS3. I am missing some of its great exclusives like you have mentioned. inFamous looks freakin awesome(best superhero game till date according to me) and with games like GOW3, FFXIII, Uncharted 2 to follow, I am left to tear my hair out for still not possessing a PS3. Its the cost that is stopping me.

Dogswithguns, all that can be done with a PC as well. I do it myself with a DVI to HDMI cable to my HDTV and single RCA cable drom my digital output(CPU) to my receiver.

I just started doing this. I have regular vga connected to my 46in lcd and have optical wire for surround sound from my PC to receiver. World in conflict is something else. I plan on getting end war i think it will be better on PC than the 360. And i also believe that your Rig is good, I have the c2d e6700 with the 8800gt so we are pretty even. I would rather build a new PC if I am looking for a new rig rather than update it even though you would save money.

Although i'm a pc gamer i say go for ps3. Your pc is already good enough. Get a ps3 for some of its exclusives save some money and in 3,4 months when the new nvidia gt300 and Ati5xxx vga's come out upgrade your pc then

I agree. Crysis on my 46" Bravia was out of this world even though the framerate wasnt all that great.Combine that with the surround sound and you can even hear anyone sneaking up from behind you:lol:

I doubt I will be able to save money for a new card in just 3,4 months:P

You dont have to buy them immediately. Your 9600gt will probably last you till the end of the year and most likely well into 2010. I say stick with that vga and in 12-18 months when it will have trouble running new games go with a new vga ( by that time the new series vga's will get price drops and cards in every category from low end gaming to high end)

This is what I pretty much plan on doing. My current rig I am going to make it a media center where i can do Tivo like functions on it. I want to build a new rig and buy vga(s) last. One thing about crysis is hard with the mouse and KB setup because I sit in my desk chair and game. I needa go wireless and find a way to make my setup more comfy for crysis. I am thinking about using a 360 controller but how well do they work with games like crysis?

A 360 controller is your best bet for any PC game since all games support it unlike the PS2 controller where I always needed Joy2keys help. My only complaint would be the D-pad but you hardly use it except for fighting games (SF4 is coming soon to the PC). I tend to prefer the mouse and Keyboard for FPS since I have a wireless setup but for games like Assassin's Creed, FIFA 09, a 360 controller is sweet.

Thats my first step is buying the logitech G11 and a wireless mouse to see how that goes with crysis. I just feel liek there are so many buttons for this game i am going to need a controller for it. All my other games are basically strategy which mouse and KB is fine. I think u should get a PS3 though because it is a great system to own being that i have two of them.

Decision made guys, I am going with the PS3. Just too many incredible exclusives to ignore. Oh and I forgot to mention Gran Turismo 5....another amazing game.
