Ok so I'm gonna sound a bit wierd but my PSU doesn't have enough leads to SLI two 8800GTXs. The 8800GTX takes both power cables which are supposed to go as one for each card. So if I was crazy enough to want to SLI two 8800 GTXs how would I do it.

The Corsair HX620 can do it, although if you plan on running a RAID array (especially one with more than two hard drives), I'm not so sure how well the Corsair will hold up.

a realistic estimate i would say is a 750 watt psu with strong 12v rails, anything higher would only be useful if you got tons of other things to power, eg. 3-4+ hard drives, several optical drives, fans and cooling solutions, etc etc, that pcp&c above is excellent, and the corsair hx620 is known to be able to handle that setup. getting anything like a 1k watter is overkill imho. the bare minimum i have seen so far is 40 amps on 12 volt rail, so that can be in about a 500+ watt psu, more likely more like that 620 watter.

since when has buying top of the line parts ever been anything but unnecessary? one does it for bragging rights, or for running max everything on that 30" Dell monitor....

You'll want an 850w+ PSU from either OCZ, Silverstone, Thermaltake or Enermax. You don't want to skimp on this thing. Oh, and make sure it can output over 60A on the combined 12V+ rails.

hmmmm 40-50A is enough, you don't need to have 850+ watts, 60A is a way to scare the consumer to buy those shiny expensive psus......

Or with Supreme Commander.

I'd rather play it safe. If you've got the money to buy two 8800GTX, then there's little doubt that you may also want to upgrade to quad core, set up RAID, get future watercooling, get a 3rd card for physics and etc... Just gives you ample headroom.

I won't be getting a second 8800GTX for a while just when I looked I got quite confussed and couldn't think how it would work. My second thought was that theres probably no case big enough to get an adequate amount of airflow to both cards.

EDIT: My current PSU is an OCZ 700Watt GameXstream SLI ready, but the 8800GTX takes both power plugs leaving nothing for a second card.

Not much farther - one or two GTXs make little difference in FSX. I should know, I tried it. GPU is not what FSX is starving for.

Tagan makes an 1100W PSU with four PCI Express power leads and a boatload of SATA connections. It'll run near $400, but it will do the job.

You would need to purchase additional [ 4 pins molex to 6 pin PCI-E ] adapters.

I didn't think it was good for the graphics card to use adapters on the power cables.
