a quick about my external HDDs

ok guys this must a quick and easy 1s but i dnt wanna take any chances so here is the qs

well earlier when i use to manually disable the HDD from the from the computer and then turn off the HDD

but now when i try to safely remove my HDDs it gives me a message that

"the device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped right now try stopping it later"

now can any1 tell me 2 things 1stly can just switching off the HDD get my data to loose and is it safe to not remove the HDD from ur computer safely and then switch it off

I use multile External HD's ive got all of my music on them its a total of about 2 terabytes and i never "Safely Remove Hardware" I just turn it off and unplug and i havent encountered an issue yet, So im pretty sure youd be ok.

ok i have 2 external HDD 1 being the maxtor 500gb and other 750 gb

well u sure i wont loose data in like a year or 2 or sooner or later coz of this switching off?

I cant guarentee anything but ive been just turning them off for about a year and a half and still have no issues.

=I never change Safely Remove Hardware on anything and i have never lost any data been doing it since the days of Windows 2000.
