Yeah I thought it was a great game. Play it alone in a dark room with 5.1 surround and it will freak you out. Come on number 2!

DIABLO DIABLO DIABLO DIABLO
It's so scary play it now!
System Shock 2, almost the whole game (except for few rooms with research materials).
Clive Barker's Jericho, during most of the ordinary Cleisiophobia encounters, great graphic and sound help a lot. weaken in boss and special mission fights.
and like few seconds in Black Area 51.
Some people are scared of Doom 3 and RoE, but who knows.....h1dd3n5had0w
I still have yet to finish Doom 3. I have yet to be frightened or shout out because of any other game (barring the occasional arty blast in ArmA).
A lot of it I figure depends on whether you are scared of atmospheric eeriness (oh, God, I butchered that word) or things that jump out and go, "Boo!"
I'm more of the latter. When an imp tears a staircase in half and jumps through it and tries to bite my face off, it scares the heck out of me. Atmospheric scariness isn't so big. Spooky music and darkness aren't as frightening as an unexpected boogity-boo nomming on your face.
It boils down to the difference between being scared of something biting your junk off and something actually doing it. Which are you?
Simply, none. I have faith in Dead Space, but I doub't it will accomplish that which has never been done before.
The only game that was decent was Cliver Barker's Undying and I played it when I was like 7 or 8 anway can't remember, unde 10 years, the others are either meh or scary for about 10 minutes or max half an hour. For example Doom 3 was scary for about 12 minutes, Quake 4 was about 8, FEAR 4 minutes until I saw that it's just a shooter with just a few horror scripted "cut-scenes", System Shock was for about 25 minutes, Prey was just plain fun, not horror at all and Condemned was meh.
Aliens vs Predator 2.
The Marine Campaign. The Predator and Alien campaigns arn't scary, they're just awesome.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Extremely atmospheric even when it's not being scary.
The only game that actually scared the bejeesus out of me was Scratches. It's an adventure game that you can't even die in. But the story, atmosphere and environmental music (or lack thereof in some places) just made the game terrifying to play alone in the dark.....
The difference between a horror story and an action story is the ability of the victims to defend themselves....
I'm really hoping the upcoming Dead Space is as scary as it's been advertised. The developers said they have focused on trying to make the game scary, and avoid the overused closet monster tactics that Doom 3 suffered from. Crossing fingers.QixoteFrom what I have heard, from a game designer who has been playing it.... its pretty damn scary, and surprisingly good. Problem is he had only played it in short bursts, so it could very well be Doom 3 scares.
am surprised no one mentioned Doom 3, I myself found it very scary. But Condemned definitely goes to the top of the list.Muhannad_basic
Hell yes with condemned. It has atmosphere like no other. I challenge anyone to not feel scared in this game, provided you don't just Leeroy through it.
The Thing had it's moments, though usually it was the larger monsters that ate ten machinegun clips and didn't die while two hits from them would kill you.
Condemned is a rather creepy and at times scary game.
F.E.A.R. had it's moments.
Doom 3 had more moments then F.E.A.R. and like The Thing made you scared of some of the enemies coming at you.
System shock 2.....One of the games that scared the bejebus out of me when I was younger, really should try it again.
doom 3 thats a survival fps not horor
diablo, WTF?
jericho? not acary but...it shows nice stuff on screen,
area 51? HEY WHAT DID I SAY?
silent hill, the king!
penumbra scrathes got to try them
dead space, hmm a mixture of re 4 prey and ss2? i think this is the only quality game form ea(what you mean? the reasons they pawned mercs 2) hope am not wrong
anyone tried cold fear?

Yeah, it's 3rd person aka not scary in the slightest.
System Shock 2, Penumbra Overture & Black Plague and Thief (yes it is) are the scariest games EVER made.
Thief may not be a 100% horror game, but it's simply the most immersive game I've ever played and there's nothing like hiding in the corner... hoping that the enemies won't find you...
When does SS2 get scary? I stopped playing like 3 hours in and might try it again.
The first enemies I encountered scared me to hell. I'm talking about those people infected by the worms. The sound of their voices, the disturbing things they say, I was all goosebumps. It's especially bad when you are in a really dark area, and you hear all their breathing and hissing, and then they get pissed. They start yelling about how you are not one of them, and you're hit from behind. I jumped clear off my chair.
If that doesn't scare you, make your room dark, turn your speaker volume way up, and lower the brightness settings in the game. I played this game on a dark monitor with a nice speaker system.
YOU HEARD ME a scary game plz which is the scariest game, i got tired of re 4 lameness kill 998 zombies like they are soldiers and you a marine climbbing every level like you are a in marines obstacle coures, a game without lame story and no wolverine armored enemies that you get loecked with them in a cell and be their gf, a scarry gmae like eg silent hill!thenewau25
If you truly want to be scared it will require you getting off your computer.
penumbra overture and black plague - Love these games.
fear
call of cthulhu
condemned
clive barker's undying
raunaq_morarka
This.
Adding to that:
The Silent Hill series
Fatal frame series (not played them, but apparently quite good)
SS2
Indigo Prophecy (or Fahrenheit)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has its moments.
I don't think things like Doom 3 are really that scary - something pops out at you to shock you, and then you kill it. Thats it.
