A survey on game piracy

I'm doing a study about piracy and seeing as PC is the system that gets the most flak over it I thought I'd post this here. It's just a 6 question survey that'll only take about 30 seconds to do.

Also, I know piracy is a no-no around here but this is just a survey so I hope that's ok, if it's not then please lock this. I didn't see any direct rule against it though, only talking about actually pirating stuff.

One final thing this survey is aimed at people who do pirate things, wether it's a lot or just a few times. If you NEVER pirate, there is no need in doing it. So please help out and thanks! :)

Even then you aren't getting "facts"...just responses from people. People lie, embellish, and exaggerate all the time. Most surveys actually know this too and apply statistical adjustments to try and balance the results.Renevent42

Not really, you need to understand what a fact is. It's either a fact or not...just because you can point to something even more outlandish, doesn't make something else more factual.

And who made those claims anyway? I remember the crysis devs being dissapointed with how much Crysis was pirated and they probably said they would have sold more had there been none, but I don't remember them saying it would have sold 8 million more copies.

Also, I found a quote from the dude that made Crysis:

Well, the perception is of course like this because equally rated games on multiple platforms sell three to four times more. That's the reality. And this wouldn't be like this if it was not for piracy to some degree. I don't think we would sell three to four times more. At the time of the interview Crysis had sold like a million copies...so at most he thought that with reduced piracy they would have saw an additional million sales. Nowhere near 8 million, and he even plainly says he didn't expect console like sales (where games like Halo sell 8 million copies).

And realistically he isn't even claiming that as a fact anyways...

Who even cares about crysis? I was using that just as an example and that's it. The topic isn't even about crysis and that isn't being bias. Because I get some crysis quote wrong, what? That means I'm bias against...crysis? developers? Pirates? You make no sense.

Because the example is false (or at best greatly exaggerated)? The fact you conjured up this "example" in the first place shines some light into your motivations/bias too.

Right, because Crysis is PC exclusive...which of course they are not doing anymore. Will be interesting to see how well Crysis 2 sells.Renevent42

I answered it honestly :D

Although you should really pick a better place than GS if you want correct results. The percentage of people who buy games on here is vastly greater than normal, even though a ton of people download cracked games without publicly stating it on here. Actually, asking on any forum would give a bad bias, because your average gamer probably doesn't participate on forums.
