Either I can pay half for a wireless router and reciever ($50) and my dad would pay the other half, or I can save my money for the 8600. I don't have internet on my computer, only on my mom's and I would like playing my games online on my computer. Which should I go for?

The only advice I'm going to give you is that if you get the router and start playing multiplayer games, it will make waiting for a new GPU a lot easier. :PÂ

Hmmm... that sounds like a good idea, and I'll only have to pay $50. I'll wait to see if anyone else votes.
its not that hard, of course the video card because you wont be able 2 play games online without a good vga card. Its like copmaring a Bugatti Veyron to a Skyline.
whats your current graphics card? this might influence our decision a little more. if you can run the games you enjoy playing now on your pc at a decent frame rate you should get the wireless router because playing multiplayer makes a game so much more worth while. if thats the case you can just upgrade your gpu later.

That's a good point. If you already own a Shader Model 3 based card such as the 7600GT, then get the router first.
I would have to say that if you have a decent enough video card, wait and get a wireless N router, 108 MBps would be best for online gameplay over a wireless network, 54 isnt fast enough for some of the new high end games for online play, I would imagine with upcoming games like UT3, to play wireless you will need 108, otherwise you will get a lot of lag. I find even on 54 G that UT2k4 lags a bit sometimes.
Post your cunnent card please. If you have a decent card, internet ftw. It helps you with homewaork, you can surf on gamespot and etc with it. Also play -even old- games! While a card gives you better single player. Still if you don't have a desent card, keep for a 8600. The best option: get a router that works with CAD-5 cables only, not a fancy wireless one. A such router is half-price than a wirless one. Also with the money you save, you may get a 8600, if you managed to earn some more! So you have both! Single and multi.
I think it may be a better idea to get the long ethernet cable because Im pretty sure there is a small delay when gaming with a wireless adapter. I could be wrong though, but im pretty sure im right

yes, so with a small wire you won't spend more than 5-10 bucks if you have a router already. And keep rest 90 for 8600. I passed a wire inside my house walls, around 35m long since it passed 2 floors and was moving zik-zak for like 15 bucks :P So I got my router next to the TV, for having a Dreambox working(getting satelite TV in a pirate way :P ) and highter than wirless speed upstair! All in all with 15 USDs.
