I'm aiming to get an 8800 GT soon, and (correct me if I'm wrong) I think the recommended PSU is 400 watts. Now, I'm close to that, mabye off by about 25-50 watts. Is it an absolute must for me to get a 400W supply, or would I be ok with being off by that many watts?

you have to remember that there are alot of different components that all need power in your computer case (usb/firewire ports, soundcard if you have one, the cpu, ram, any lights your case may have etc) so a good rule of thumb is to get more power then you think you'll need, just to be on the safe side, cause you can damage things if they don't get enough power.
