Ok so basically, I am hearing that SSD's will increase boot times in computers with the OS. If this is true (very likely) then how would I go about setting it up with the installation and everything? How would I connect to my pc? Do I get a 16gb and just load windows on it?

And off topic, If I move my internal HDD from one computer to another, will I lose my data(ask me to reformat it)?

Thanks!

An SSD will decrease the time it takes to boot. Stay away from ones with J Micron controllers because they have really bad stuttering issues and are just horrible. Take a look at the OCZ Vertex series and any one made by intel. I'm not sure what else is out now that uses a different controller, but I know that those two brands don't use the J Micron controller. Check out these articles: http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3535

My first choice for an SSD would be the X-25M from intel: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167005 Very good price too.

As for moving a hard drive, you'll most likely need to reformat it since it usually won't work on another motherboard.

You will not find a decent sized SSD for under 100.

You're not going to get a decent SSD for less than $100. It's not worth it. Save up some money and either get the X25-M or even a 30GB vertex. The vertex is only $150. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227393

Yes. Currently, they are overpriced. But wait it out a bit. They'll go down.

IMO, they're not overpriced. For what you get, it's worth the price. Boot times are incredibly fast, insane read/write, ns response times compared to ms on hard drives. They will come down in price, but it's definitely worth it now.

I can't really understand the want of a SSD just for your OS. My computer can currently go from off to Vista 64 in about 30-35seconds. I'd much rather have a SSD for gaming - though I can't afford a setup with SSDs, so I'm content with what I have. Maybe it's just me, but that's what I personally would benefit the most from with a SSD hard drive.

With an SSD, you can go from off to vista in 5-10 seconds. An OS would benefit the most from an SSD because of all of the operations it runs, small file transfers, etc. Check out the articles I posted, you'll understand then. Gaming doesn't benefit as much from an SSD besides load times really.
