So I was reading PC Gamer's top 100 games of all time, and I decided it's finally time I played Deus Ex. I played the demo way back when, but I was pretty young and not that interested in the FPS/RPG genre.

I was just wondering if there are any mods or patches I should be sure to get before I start playing?

There's Shifter that improves Deus Ex gameplay e.g getting exp points from kills, new weapons, more randomized drops from enemies etc.

And if you're still hungry for Deus Ex afterwards there's two mods I'll recommend ZODIAC which is not as good as the original's singleplayer but still a solid addon and The Nameless Mod which is by far one of the most ambitious mods ever to be made.

Play it without mods.

All games, unless they are horribly buggy (Temple of Elemental Evil, Vampire Bloodlines), should be experienced without mods first.

Play it without mods and then come back to it if you want to.
Also, don't quit after the first level.

and yea, dont quit after the first level lol

I loved the first level, but the majority of people hated it.

I think I like it because its the perfect example of what the rest of the game has in store for you (in terms of options). Sneaking, speech, guns blazing, etc.

There are cheats. Lots of cheats. For whatever. I love a game with cheats. Run out of ammo? Get ammo. Great.

Just remember, that first level is probably the worst part of Deus Ex.....don't let it derail ya, great game.

haha didn't see your post, I pretty much wrote the same thing.

But I was one who didn't care for the first level much.

Play without mods first time through ..

Perservere past the first level please .. the rest of the game is well worth the initial struggle

to continue your Deus Ex experience after finishing the game, install The Nameless Mod .. my Mod of the Year for 2008

good luck, have fun,and enjoy the conspiracy :D

Yeah, if anything treat mods like an afterthought... that's what I do with all games, and it works well.
