I've heard rumors that there will be new i7s in the second quarter of this year. I know they will replace the two mid and high end i7s, but will there be a i7 930 to replace the 920? (I haven't seen this anywhere) basically I didn't want to overclock the i7 920 (I'm a newbie) but I thought waiting for its replacement might go from 2.66 ghz to about 2.9 ghz (ie it would be almost as if I overclocked the 920!)

another rumor is that they are losing money on the gtx 295s and that's why they are so hard to find. will they STOP making them in the next couple months or replace with a better graphics card by May?

basically, I just want to know if it's worth me waiting until May, hoping for better products (including motherboards, etc) or slightly lower prices for existing products like the i7 920 and gtx 295?? Is anything 'coming down the pike' in the next couple months worth waiting for?!

I know that there will be superior graphics cards in the fall but that seems a bit long to wait for me! thanks

It's always better to wait as the prices are constantly dropping. However, eventually you just have to buy. You're going to get screwed out of some really great deal, but it happens to everyone every time. Nothing you can do unless you want to upgrade every 6 months.

I would wait a couple of months on the i7 though. They're brand new and already super cheap. A couple of months down the road and you should be able to pick up a board for less than 200.

in my experience, it's nearly always better to wait as long as you can before buying an upgrade. even if another i7 doesn't become available soon, with the current i7's being as expensive as they are they can only come down in price as the year goes on.

I am too waiting for may...at first, I wanted to wait until july but I just can stand anymore my 5 years old crappy dell xps. You can wait if you want for better prices but in the end, you will end up like me...waiting forever, cause every 3-6 months, new technology appears and price drops happen.

By the way, I read that new core i7 will arrive in may but only to replace the 940 and the 965, the 920 wont be touched. So in may I'm getting a core i7 920 which I will overclock to 3,4 (I'm a noob too in computers but it's really easy : lookat this http://pietschsoft.com/post/2008/11/Intel-Core-i7-920-Initial-Thoughts-Overclocking-Windows-Vista.aspx), 6 gig of 1333 ram and probably a gtx 285 (I know they will release a GTX 300 in fall or in early 2010 but like I said, you'll never buy anything if you want to wait for better technology...and also, I want to be able to play all my favorite games in max settings during summer vacations)

As for the video card, you can sell the one that you buy now for an expensive price on ebay and upgrade to DX11 later. DX11 is definitely worth it though, as it will last much longer than DX10. Vista is just the modern day Windows 2000. However, Vienna is the modern day XP. It's the real deal upgraded version of Vista, and is meant to last MUCH longer. You'll be seeing DX11c on the Vienna platform...

It's the codename for Windows 7. But they changed the name Longhorn to Vista, so it may very well have a different name when it is released.

since there will be no i7 920 upgrade I might as well buy now, as I can't wait until the fall (very old computer). i guess there will not be any graphics card comparable to the gtx 295 by end of May? i've heard that there is a shortage of gtx295s bc intel (or whatever is the manufacturer) is actually losing money with each purchase! do you think they will stop selling those video cards anytime soon for that reason? if so, i will go ahead and buy now!

I would be more worried about sustained driver support, as has been the case with previous sandwhich cards.
