My uncle is going to let me build him a new computer and I need some advice.

All he does mainly is check his e-mail, go on ebay, play a couple of old computer games/ online poker sites.

Basically my thoughts were a cheap core 2 duo, integrated/ low end graphics card and he already has a monitor and keyboard/mouse.

So any advice/builds. Mainly aiming for around a couple hundred dollars. Also, probably gonna need a mid- smaller type of case (so no huge cases). But he does live in vegas so cooling should be decent.

I'd get at least a Single Core 3*00+,Semprons are **** even for internet and email,preferably a X2 4000+.

Otherwise i'd go with what imprezawrx500 said.

Agreed, probably could get away with even cheaper RAM, if necessary.

If you are going for a dual-core, the very most you should go is X2 3600+.

Good luck finding a Retail version for a reasonable price, once they were discontinued a few months ago, they sold fast and are now out of stock on most if not all sites selling CPU's.

I will probably look for a different case, since that one seems to have some bad psu issues most of the time, as well as little space and hard to get to cd rom drive. I will probably also upgrade him to a good 2.0 or higher cpu depending on if he wants that.

If anyone else has any suggestions for a cheap good small to mid size case, and a decent cpu that's cheap for this rig I could use the help.

Just double checking, would this cpu work with the mobo posted above?

Budget doesn't have to mean a crappy computer. Spend a little more to get something that won't be slow in a year.

Here's what I'd be on the lookout for:

Cheapest AM2 dual-core processor you can find

AM2 motherboard with the 690G onboard video (DVI onboard is nice to have)

2GB RAM (It's dirt cheap, and I've noticed that people that have more RAM tend to feel that their computer is "faster" as the years go by)

160GB hard drive (Doubling your space for $10 is nice)

Case + 350w power supply (preferably from a more reputable company, but it really shouldn't matter much)

SATA DVD RW drive

That's still hardly an expensive machine, but it will likely last longer than a machine with 1GB of RAM and a single-core processor will, just in terms of how quickly you can get things done. People don't like paying a lot of money for computers, but there's no sense in saving $100 just to buy another computer a year or two before you would otherwise.

Well my uncle hardly does anything with his computer. Goes online, looks at websites plays some pretty old and free online games. Maybe looks at some pics and stuff since he has a digital camera. That is pretty much it. He doesn't really need anything blazing fast, he just wants a pretty cheap solution that'll be quicker than his 8 year old computer.

Maybe i'll look to add another gig of ram and just give him a decent single core 2.0 ghz or so. But it's kind of pointless for him to spend 100 or more when he pretty much does nothing on his computer. So it's not like he'll be needing to do anything alot better in the future. No gaming no hard core graphic editing.

Anyone have any recommendations as to a better small tower case. And just double checking if my cpu I posted on page 1 near the bottom was compatible with it. Pretty sure it is but it doesn't hurt to double check.

Bump for advice for any suggestions on a good mini case brand. Since the one posted seemed to have a case of bad psus.

Also I got a question about how printers hook up to computers. Is it through like usb drives or something else?

Also, since the mobo has onboard graphics when I hook up the monitor it's going to go straight into the mobo connection? Or do I like need something special to connect it?

That 3800+ Single Core is 'deactivated' so i'm assuming its no longer existant on newegg.com,so get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103033

And Small Tower Cases are a bad idea, because they can get hotter than Most Mid Towers, get something like a Cooler Master Centurion 5 and a Antec Earthwatts 380W both for $50.

I am assuming you meant the case and psu= 100$ altogether? Since I didn't see any combo deal for 50$ But yeah I probably will go with that case but I found a cheaper psu.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171007

Figured it's from coolermaster and the reviews are pretty good so it should be fine. And I will go with that cpu. Now I am just curious about the printer and stuff. I have never really set up a printer before so how do they connect to computers and stuff? Usb ports?

Also I notice that the hd and cd drive are sata. But I can't tell if this mobo comes with 1 or 2 sata cords.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130542

Do I need to buy another sata cord from the looks of it? Will it even have 2 sata ports to plug it all in?

you kidding? semprons are great for what they are, i have the AMD sempron 3000+, and i have ran everygame i have bought except rainbow 6 las vegas. it ran Bioshock, ET:QW, BF2142 all without a hitch. for a 1.8Ghz its does bloomin well, that said its not the best, but i still think you should give it more credit then saying its **** even for emails and stuffs.
