So after configuring a rig in my newegg.com cart, it all came up to 700, which meant I was most likely going to have to sell my PS3 to raise funds for my pc, but after a few tweaks here and there, i was able to bring down the price to 600 and you have no idea how happy that made me.

here's the pc config:

CPU: Intel e5200 2.5 ghz(to be overclocked) nuff said.

MoBo. GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P

RAM: 4gigs of g. skill pc 6400 ddr2 ram kit.

HD: 320mb western digital 7200rpm drive

a cheap lite-on dvd/cd burner.

case for now is x-supra g-type with 500w PSU which will be replaced as soon as possible. I've sen someone else use the same case on youtube and his system didnt go up in flames so...

gpu: 9800gt 512mb oc. video cards

Mouse/keyboard

Total came up to 600$ and I dont even have to sell my PS3 anymore! good deal! U gotta' love newegg. But since I'm getting the e5200 cpu with a arctic cooler pro 7, I've seen people overclocking to up to 4.0 or 3.5 with ease, anyone know how I could do this?

If your going to go with an NVIDIA card then save 15$ on the mobo and get the UD3R instead since the only difference between the two is that the UD3P supports crossfire(only for ATI cards)

So the ud3p doesnt support sli? If it doesnt then I'll just go with the 4850. The UD3R only has one pci slot that's why I chose it at first and then got the4 ud3p instead

I'm thinking vista ultimate 64 so I could up my ram to unneeded 8 gigs. I dont have to buy an OS as I could easily get one from my dad, friends or uncle.

you should sell your ps3 and get better parts. trust me, once you get a great pc, you'll never want to touch the filthy console peasant games and controllers again. it should safely clock to 3.0, after that you'll have to know what you're doing.

The E5200 is a value part, meaning it's not going to be a higher binned chip. This means you'll have to pump a lot more volts to get higher clock speeds after a certain point unless you got lucky and got a really good chip. My brother has an E5200 and he's running it @3Ghz using the stock cooler.

3.5-4ghz will not be very easy on a E5200. Probably needs close to 1.4V to do that. As paulliwog said, 3ghz should be easy.

Get the UD3R instead, it just don't support Crossfire (and for that would be better a X48/X38 chipset) and has only one ethernet connection (the UD3P has two).

You may also want to consider the E7400. Although it's $120, it should overclock better than the E5200 and has 3MB L2 cache instead of 2MB.

pc+ps3 combo=WIN! Sordidus, the ud3r only has one slot though. I want to sli or crossfire. SO...I'm in doubts right now.

Or should I go with this AMD config with the same basic components but a gigabyte ga-ma790gp-ds4h mobo and the athlon x2 6000+ cpu? They cost about the same bothe configs. But I'm thinking for the future. AnD The thought of selling my PS3 makes me sick.

I just recently bought an E5200 with a Freezer 7 Pro, and easily oc'ed it to 3.5ghz on a Asus P5QL Pro board. Prime stable for 22hrs, 1.25 vcore, idle at 37, max load temps around 53. I actually just looked around some forums and noted some other peoples settings with the E5200 and P5QL Pro, tried out one of the settings, and it worked perfectly.
