Hello guys - A total newbie here in regards to computer gaming. I recently started playing Resident Evil 5 PC and while I love the game I just hate the fact that the graphic is sooooo slow on my laptop (due to the intergrated Intel HD graphic, been told there's nothing I can do with it) so looking to get a new desktop PC (need one anyway... Current one is from 7+ years ago with Windows XP, no usable graphic card what so ever). Please tell me how this sounds: A desktop with 4+ GB RAM, 500GB + hardrive, preferably Pentium ICore 7 and adding on a Geforce GTX 285/1G graphic card (if there's any better ones please do let me know), anything missing? Also are there reliable PC brands that you guys would suggest or can one just get anyting and add a good graphic card on? Thanks and suggestions/reply much appreciated.

Budget? Also you mean the Intel i7. Pentium is an old Intel architecture. And yes there are better cards than the 285...

Are you planning to build this yourself or are you trying to buy a prebuilt? I HIGHLY recommend building it yourself. It's really not difficult at all. General_X made a fantastic picture guide that will really get you started (click here to get to it) and you can find tons of videos on YouTube. Once you answer this, then I'll give you some recommendations. Also, what is your budget?

Its not old at all. There are new Pentiums based on Core i3's (Clarkdale LGA 1156) architecture and run like champs.

I never said that they were chips that couldn't perform. I said it is an old architecture. I mean the original Pentium was release in the early 90's...

get a sandy bridge computer.........nvm just checked newegg and it seems everything has been recalled. That seriously sucks.....well you can wait a while or just get an AMD phenom II x4 955 based computer, it will run anything you throw at it at decent frames.

An AMD build with the 6870 as the video card will run you close to $700

you don't really want i7 unless you are willing to invest on x58/1366 motherboard and tri channel DDR3, which it is pointless right now since 1366 will be obsolete when sandy bridge is fixed. I'd go for a quad i5 /1156, 4gb ddr3, gtx 560, and a SSD + a HDD for storage.

Gotta agree with this, maybe skip the SSD if your budget is under $800-$900 but if you cash to flash then it will be very noticeable piece of kit. I suggest waiting for the revised Sandy Bridge which should be in suppliers in a week or two and it will be a worthy chip to have.

Edit: Are you able to build a machine or are you asking these questions in the hopes of visiting a PC store and buying one matching the advise given? I highly recommend building it as all the parts will come with instructions, very easy to do at most you'll need a screwdriver.
