i have just reinstalled XP and i downloaded my ati drivers and rebooted, on login everything is fine, no crashing untill i open a program, it just freezes and the screen goes black nothing happens the PC is not responding to anything. so i then safemode uninstall the drivers and install my drivers from the disk i got with my graphics card. same thing happens. this has never happend before, this is a clean xp install. i have reinstalled xp twice and tried the drivers but same thing. My PC always finds a way to break. im so tempted by the macs. help

Uninstall them and use a driver cleaner. Then reinstall them again. See if that helps.

Seems something is still enabled but doesn't work because it's data files are removed. Try booting into safe mode and use msonfig to disable the programs. Also, alter your resolutions and set them to standard VGA until the drivers are cleared and reinstalled afterwards.
