Build your own, if you know how. You'll save a ton of money for one, and you won't get stuck with pre-loaded garbage-ware that comes on most pre-built machines.

As much as I'm an ATI/AMD lover at heart, you can't go wrong with Intel/nVidia right now. My suggestion? Get a Core2Duo, 2 gigs of ram, and an nVidia 8800 GT. They're cheap and they perform great.

You'll be able to play Crysis on Very High with no problems.

With that rig, you'll be able to play crysis on medium/high at best. Which is not bad.
For Very High you'll need couple of 8800GTX/Ultra in SLI.

welcome to the club

If you dont know how to build a computer or dont have someone there to help you, it would be best to buy your own. There are a bunch of sites where you could get a prebuilt computer, Cyberpowerpc, Buyxg, velocity micro, alienware, avadirect, and ibuypower. Go to resellerratings.com to read extensive customer ratings on all of these companies to find what is the best one with the best reliablility and customer service.

You are new to pc gaming, so I would have to say that PCs are more expensive then consoles. Tho you will get much better hardware and can run any game x360 could handle but with better graphics and higher resolution. You probably want to spend around $1500 or so on hardware that will keep up with the latest games for the next three years or so without needing to upgrade.

I disagree. Unless the demo runs better then the full game will (which, it should be the opposite), you can run Crysis on Very high with a Core2Duo, 2 gigs of ram, and a 8800 GT. I just played the demo on my g/f's comp, which is exactly that build, and it ran awesome with all settings maxed and 2xAA. Not one glitch or slow-down, with FPS between 20-40.

YES! you just like made my day man! someone told me that with my rig i'd only hit high settings but now i'm happy again after hearing what you said :D

Also, more proof of this is on the latest episode of "on the spot." they play Crysis on a Core 2 duo and 8800GT and it looked and ran really really good! but i think someone already pointed that out lol oh well

I agree with SentientGames, I have a Athlon64 X2 with 1GB of Ram and an X1600. I played Crysis on Medium with nogliches. All you have to dois update ALL your drivers and you should be fine.

No offense but your getting ripped. I paid under $1300 and have a Q6600, 8800GTX, 2gb gskill ram, 36gb raptor, evga 650i mobo, 750w sli certified psu, tuniq tower, etc all built myself inside an Antec 900 case. I'll possibly be able to run Crysis at 1920x1200 with no aa, once patches and optimization come along later.

Well yeah,Forerunner is probably paying upwards of $200+ just labor and other fees. And I'm assuming he's getting a copy of Windows to stick on there as well. But, it's true - you'll save hundreds of dollars building it yourself.

I'm glad I made your day! I was pretty stoked about the performance. Just don't confuse "Very High" with "Ultra High". To get Ultra High, you'll need Vista (blech) and probably a GTX to get smooth framerates. Keep in mind that "all settings maxed" on her computer is "Very High", not "Ultra High".

And Nytemarex isright. Make sure you clean off your old drivers and get the latest ones!

It's kinda funny. I've been a casual gamer for a couple of years now and always done PC. Never owned a console. But a couple months back I got a Wii and my roommate bought a 360 and both of us for the most part have stopped playing PC and agreed console is more entertaining.

$1300 is really pushing it. I honestly don't believe it's a $1300 PC.
Also most of us need monitor and decent HDD, Vista alone takes over 15GB of space.
So realistically this PC will come out close to $1700 with monitor and extra HDD.

Well I'm getting like a 320GB hard drive so i won't need an extra but also, my friend is gonna get me a monitor so I'm covered there too.

But yeah I would build my own comp but I don't feel comfortable with that at all.

Believe what you want, but I have the reciepts to back my claim. Yes, every part I mentioned came to a total just under $1300. A 36 raptor is a solid choice to install the OS and apps. I haven't bought into the Vista hype yet.. tried it but don't like it. I'll think about it when SP1 comes along. I have a 750gb WD perpendicular drive which is really sweet and runs my games as fast as the raptor, but I didn't include this because it would up the cost.

As for the monitor, I found a Sony 24" widescreen FW900 crt monitor for $150 locally on Craigslist. Went to test it for myself and it rocks. This particular monitor was (and still may be) used by Pixar and the quality is beyond that of my Sony 34XBR960 (the holy grail of hdtvs).

Shop smart, and build things yourself to save $ and enjoy more frames and eye candy in your fav games. If you don't know how or nervous to do it yourself, perhaps you have a friend or teacher whom can guide you?

I really wish you lived near me. I occasionally throw lan parties and would invite you. I'de also build you a solid rig for free.

But in any case, your 8800gt should still rock the games. Congrats on the purchase! Take no prisoners online!

It's really not that hard to build a computer. Granted, I've built some twenty computers now, so I'm pretty comfortable with the idea, but if you got someone who knows what their doing helping you out, it should be no sweat.

I agree with the others, if you can build one yourself. I haven't built a computer myself yet, but I've taken my old one apart and plugged a bunch of stuff from that one into my little brother's computer to give him a big of an upgrade.

I don't have a lot of money, but I want to put together a new rig. So I've slowly been saving up and buying parts as I can. I've got a new processor and I'm more then content with my 8800GTS 640MB video card (I might pick up a a second one and run SLI). I've got a case, MB, RAM, HDD, PSU all picked out, I just need more money....Hopefully in the next 6-12 months I'll be on my way to building my first computer.

As for now, my current computer allows me to run Crysis Demo on all high settings with AA off and I average about 30FPS. So, I'm sitting good with my computer right now, but I want to upgrade to some parts that are more up to date.

I've built my last four rigs and my son's as well. You definately need to take your time. It's not as difficult if you're done your homework and have the right components for the right case. There's no more satisfying feeling in the world than putting a rig together, and seeing it fire-up right off the bat. Feel's mavelous.

I wouldn't say he's getting ripped - not all people feel comfortable building their own rig, and what he got is much better than anything from a big-name builder.

You probably feel like you got so much of a better deal because you picked a low-end mobo and the cheapest possible ram, plus didn't include the cost of OS or optical drives. Maybe that's something you took from a previous build, but it still counts towards the cost when someone is building scratch with nothing to cannibalize. And no offense, but your TV may have been the holy grail 3, almost 4, years ago, but a 34" 1080i tube doesn't really fall in that category today ;)

Amd are going through a bit of a Rough Patch and I personally think that for the time being a E/Q6600 is the best Value for Performance on the Market. I Highly recconmend you go down the Road of Building one yourself do the research trust me you will walk away with more Money than a Pre-Build and the satisfaction that you built it yourself and of course it will the be the way you want it not the Manufactor.

But yeah I would build my own comp but I don't feel comfortable with that at all.

I really wish you lived near me. I occasionally throw lan parties and would invite you. I'de also build you a solid rig for free.

But in any case, your 8800gt should still rock the games. Congrats on the purchase! Take no prisoners online!

Yeah too bad :( That would've been sick!

Thanks bro! Hahaha I won't! There are some awesome multiplayer games in November with UT3, CoD4, etc.
