So I made my soda mess thread like two days ago about how I trashed my power supply and video card after spilling soda. Now I'd like to know.. is it safe to test my MB using my brother's power supply and video card? Are either of those parts at risk if the MB turns out to have been fried with my other parts?

It's a definite possibility, since the MB draws power directly from the PSU.

Yeah, that's an issue.. How do I test my MB if merely doing so could be detrimental to healthy parts? I don't want to just get a new MB if this one is working properly.

Easiest way would be to install the other power supply and see if it works.

No, thats what I meant. Is it dangerous to do so because there's a possibility my MB is fried? Or would it be fairly safe regardless?

It should be safe as long as soda didn't get anywhere else.

dry soda may or may not be a conductor, which is what messes up electronics when you drop liquids on them, circuits that weren't meant to be complete are completed all over the place all at once.

I missed the thread!

Were there pics?

EDIT:

I found it, no pics.

After reading it...

Toss the PSU, it's toast. As far as the MB, you'll need to clean it with alcohol. Sugars from soda and beer destroy PCBs. Depending on how much got on it, you may be replacing that as well. Graphics card - you'll need to disassemble it and have a closer look at it. Clean it up if it's not to covered in goo.

I'd still give it a few more days before testing it.
