I plan on buying a new computer with gaming rig and what not. And I was wondering if Age of Conan is worth picking up for another $50. I loved WoW so I figured this is the next best thing.

If you want a good idea of what the game is like, watch the three hour marathon they posted on this site. best way to get your own opinion about it, because alot of people have been flaming it or loving it. Best if you get your own opinion from watching the gameplay yourself. After watching it myself, im going to upgrade my computer to play it.

It's a superb game. Funcom put a lot of work in everything - the combat, quests (so far all quest givers have been well voice acted), lore, graphics, etc. I'm having much more fun in it's lower levels than I did with WoW's.

If you have (or getting) a good computer and are a fan of MMO's I would definitely suggest it.

Like some have said already, you might need a good computer to full enjoy the game, but then again there are some people in the guild im in that have very very low end computers and play the game with everything on low. Sure it might not be as beautiful as playing with the game on high settings, but its still got soem great gameplay imo.

I can't recommend it. Fairly average mmo if you ask me. The melee combat is cool at first. As of 50+ I don't find it that interesting anymore. Including in pvp. There is a colossal lack of content 50+. It just turns into a grind fest. You will grind many levels in this game. I think another thing that bothers me is the lack of a proper 30-40 zone. You have to go to the other races 20-30 areas to level 30-40. It's just very lazy and pathetic for an mmo that has been in development for five plus years.

Crafting and gathering is horribly boring. Especially gathering. If it was free to play I might be able to forgive some of it's many short comings. Overall I think the game is a huge disappointment. It's going to end up like most newer mmos and have its small community and that will probably be good enough for funcom and fans. And like the last few mmos that have come out I am letting my sub run out as usual.

I dont mean to hijack you're thread Altair1337 but i was going to make a thread about the same topic but since you already have i'll ask a few of my questions in here :P!

- How well does the game run on a 7900GS, 2GB RAM, AMD64 Dual Core rig? or equivalent?

- Any word yet on how much the monthly subscription will be? Euros, Dollars or Pounds Sterling it doesn't matter as i can convert it lol.

- Is there anything that makes it stand out from other MMO's? any defining quality that no other MMO has had implimented?

- Is the game buggy or have any real nasty glitches in it that could be a turn off?

- Which class, if its at all possible to answer this, is worth starting? I imagine some classes have a longer learning curve etc so i'm just curious how the classes compare to those in other MMO's.

- Finally is it worth buying this game now or maybe waiting a few months, or until i upgrade my PC, to see howbig/involved the community is with the game. I imagine at the moment theres lots of people playing but will it stay like that do you think after the novelty dwindles assuming it ever does lol.

Again sorry for sort of hijacking the thread with my questions but i figure its better putting them in here than making a new one while this one is still open and bumped.

In my opinion the game is terrible, I played WoW for over 2 years and enjoyed it alot, but after TBC I got bored of it and quit, when I found out that Age of Conan was coming out and you needed quite a good computer to run it I was really chuffed and excited and couldn't wait for it to be released.

When the time came I went to the store and brought the game, took ages to install and patch, the game was pretty laggy and my computer is pretty decent, spent about £700 just on the tower about 2 months ago. Anyway, the game ran at like 20fps on medium-high graphics, the game was linear, boring and repetitive, also there was alot of grinding involved.

I attempted to take the game back to the shop because I was so dissapointed with it. But because o the CD-Key you get with it when you buy it, it becomes invalid for return or exchange :(

When I got in later than night, I removed the game from my harddrive, and left the CD's to gather dust on my shelve.

I will just have to wait for Warhammer online to come out and give that a spin, because there is no way i'm playing WoW or AoC.

Anyway, some people may enjoy it, but I was extremely disappointed with it.

A bunch of whining without any valid complaints. If you only get 20fps on medium-high graphics, it's not the game you should be taking it back - it's your rig. The game's world isn't as opened up as WoW's but then again it's much more detailed and has better quests. As for repetitive, all MMOs are repetitive but I haven't felt the repetition yet personally.

But it really depends what you're in the game for. I'm trying it out for more action and some good slashin' PvP, and the game delivers and then some.

If you like MMOs you will probably like it. I am trying to stay away from MMOs atm, not just because of the monthly fee. I have played a bunch of MMOs but they tend to draw me in too much... I end up staying in doors for the whole time, it gets annoying because soon you realize that its really boring but you still carry on. may be its just me

I knew ye couldn't trust Funcom! IGN just posted a 40+ Impressions on AoC - and is now suggesting you hold off on buying it until they add content for 40+ chars.

Yea, really. Age of Conan is a good game but it does get old pretty fast. Specially at end game, I am sure down the road the game will get better.

Now I'm high up enough in level to disagree with you.

If you didn't want to go to the other areas to quest there, then what kind of rpg player are you? Why skip out on a whole lot of stories and areas? If you did like me, you had absolutely no shortage of quests between 30-40. Hell, at 55, I'm STILL with a full quest log.

Which makes me doubt your other complaint, the lack of content 50+. At 55, I still have Cistern, Main System, all 3 three zones beyond the 3 gathering areas, Eiglophian Mountains(which I havent even started). And thats specific to 50-60. I'm not even talking endgame areas like Thunder River, Kheshatta and others that I can't think of atm. So to me it just looks like you really didnt even try to explore much and hoped everything was going to be handed to you, no offense.

Whats more boring about this gathering than other games? If anything, its an improvement because you can set markers to their locations as they never change, and each node can be harvested 10 times if full, reducing the grind tremendously. Whats wrong with that?

Crafting does need work. But some are already very useful, especially armorsmith. Cutting gems is fun, as you can build the stats on your armor to your exact playstyle. Pretty cool.

I don't think your opinion is any less or more valid than mine, but there is a condescending tone to your posts that anyone who enjoys this game has low standards. Thats simply not true. AoC does a lot well, and with enough updates, it can easily be the best MMO on the market.

Wow, long post(bored at work). :P

I won't deny my bias. I'm loving the game. Its the only one I'm playing right now. So I'm going to forgive its shortcomings to enjoy the good in it. I have a habit of that, considering that my favorite rpgs of all time are Gothic 2 and Morrowind, which were buggy messes. :P

Heres my honest opinion:

Its the best looking MMO out there providing you have the PC to run it. However gameplay-wise its exactly the same as WoW (i.e. kill this, deliver that etc). While the combat system may be different, its still more or less button bashing madness that gets very old very soon. And for the lore...well the first 20 levels of the storyline are very good and well written...but after that you go back to usual territory (i,e, "thieves killed my son! Kill 100 boars to avenge him!")

Im not going to talk about bugs or technical issues since it is only launch and they will eventually be fixed.

nevertheless 6/10

-nothing new, nothing innovating, gets boring quite quickly.

Volkan - lvl 41 Barbarian.
