Yah. Wow is a wide audience game. You're not going to get the same sized audience in the "Boobies" mmo.
I'm not sayin AoC doesn't have potential to be profitable, and have a large audience, it just won't measure up to the 10-11million subscribers that WoW has.
AoC will not pull WoW's casual player base.
AoC has the potential of stealing all of the hardcores though...the game is pure awesomeness.
Age of Conan is the next big game within MMO :D
AFter what ive seen and heard here in Norway .. I looks like Age of Conan will beat WOrld of Warcraft hardcore !!!
what you think?
ExTrazz-SeWICX
are you on drugs? you can add up the population of every MMO out there together and still not come close to WoW.

Maybe so, but wouldn't you think if Age of Conan turns out to be better, people might switch over. I mean, WoW is getting up their in years now. Every game declines in popularity eventually...
Top 10 sellings games of last year include WoW, Burning Crusade, and ....WoW Chest. Other games include the Sims. This tells you two things about popular (casual player) computer games.
1. People like the social aspect of the game so they won't leave WoW if their friends won't.
2. People like games they can play on their home (non-gaming) PC.
3. Both series of games are easy to pick up and play.
You want to debate about bad graphics, hard core gamers & gameplay, etc., you will win. But give credit to where credit is due, they made a good business model and one they are now reaping financially.
WoW will eventually decline but not this decade, Wrath of the Linch King will be the top PC sold when its released.
P.S. If you don't like WoW...don't play it. Bashing it stupid and makes you look like a jealous fool. I stopped playing it last summer. Currently playing LOTRO but WoW was great and I had fun playing it, it just got boring and far too repetitive...like most MMO's. Thats the great thing about games...if you don't care for one...theres plenty more to choose from.
AoC may be awesome to some but it is still a niche game. Most MMO players dont want the type of PvP that is in AoC. That is why it will never see WoW's numbers. Conan will be awesome to the people who are into PvP though.RossRichard
I don't understand what you mean by MMO players not wanting AoC's PvP. Theres the standard pvp games like CTF and DM which is basically WoW's BG. And then theres PvP servers that are cultural, so its like Horde vs. Alliance, excepts its three factions, Cimmerians, Stygians, and Aquilonians. And then theres FFA-PVP, which is pure chaos....just like Hyboria should be. :)
It doesn't matter which is 'better' that's always going to be completely subjective but there's a huge difference in their target market. AoC is aimed at the mature market and its content matches, WoW was aimed for everyone possible and its content also matches.
AoC is by far the better game but WoW will remain the most popular for a long time to come. Blizzard games have always seemed to have a massive fan base even when their graphics gameplay etc are outdated. Plus for a lot of people WoW was their first MMO and I think even if it's a pretty **** game your first MMO is a mystical game crack addiction.
Really all that needs to be said
AoC = better
WoW= more popular

wasn't there a MMO released last year that was all PVP....and failed badly. If you want to PVP, play a FPS online.

Then you are unaware that there are PvE servers where you can choose to never play a PvP match in your whole life there.

DAoC tried something similar. It went well until everyone hit level 50 and realized that PvP was the endgame. Then to add more endgame Mythic released Shrouded Isles, which was good, and Trials of Atlantis, which was the beginning of the death of DAoC. Whats my point? Both DAoC and Age of Conan hyped up their PvP. All this leads to is the hardcore loving the game and the casual gamers (most of the MMO space) getting bored and leaving if they make it to max level and dont want to PvP. Either way, Age of Conan wont get WoWs numbers simply because both games cater to a different demographic, which is what I was trying to say in the first place. Age of Conan may have the best PvP in the history of MMOs, but it doesnt amount to a hill of beans if the majority of the gamers dont want to PvP. Why play several months to max your level, then several more to get all epic geared up, when I can install any FPS and get the same PvP experience without the time investment? Not everyone plays an MMO to PvP. That is why WoW has 10 million subscribers.
Age of Conan will not never be popular as WoW for three reasons..
Its rated M so there goes the majority of the kiddies that play on WoW..
It has steep system requirements, there goes a majority of a user base..
It does not have the fanbase following that blizzard has.
Age of CONAN could be popular for only few months. Wow's next expansion is coming in fall, then everybody will play it. Then when they are finished with that, the new big MMORPG is on the way by Ea games (the biggest video game company). That is Warhammer Online , it will be similar to WOW , so people who played wow and looking for new adventures, will start playing WHO.
I am a WOW player n fan , i am waiting for WHO from now on.
It's comin big time, i love EA , they made good games , they will try to do e'thing to own WOW's kingdom.
Blizzard made billions of $$$ with WOW. All companies know that if they make a game as popular as WOW, they can take their own slice of the billion $$$ cake.
I really want to try AoC and judge, but I can't even play because the patcher is broken.
So I guess the point goes to the game that I can actually...well...you know...play.

Hows it broken? it updated fine for me today
I can't get past a 5kbps download speed on there. I don't have a firewall or antivirus, so the problem isn't on my end. My normal download speeds are ~1000kbps and I can use bittorent @ 300kbps. Some other people have had that problem but with no solutions.
AoC will not pull WoW's casual player base.

AoC is pure hype, the combat system and graphics are failures. WoW will hold its crown for both hard core and casual MMO players.

AoC can have the LOTRO fan base, there was little to none to begin with so that means AoC will have dead servers when warhammer launches. What's it like to be always wrong? DO you feel depressed? stupid? inferior?

Sorry to inform you guys but blizzard had established an epic brand name before they launched AoC, Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft series. Alot of people follow the lore and/or brand names. Also taking AoC system requirements into consideration, most people will skip AoC. I know that in a very few years computers will have developed to handle AoC like an old tissue, but at that stage people will be waiting for the next mmo
i remember playing on WoW's first PVP servers. you could not find a group for days, there was maybe 20 holy priests and proct -warriors on the server. questing was impossible. STV had about 1,000 stealthed druids and rogues waiting to pounce on each other.ct1615
Unlike WoW, there is no healbot classes, the Healing classes are fun to play, because healing is secondary, they act from agressive means at the same time.
My Tempest of Set as an example, Creats buffs through lightining damage, gets stronger when allies are replensihing mana from my totem, I have a range of Crowd control spells. I only have 4 healing moves, 1 of which I can only use on myself, the rest are mainly Heal over Times.
Not the lifeless priest that I had on WoW ... spamming circle of healing in both raid and Arena, with some singlular healing exception.
WoW maybe the most popular MMO, but its outdated, go take your fanboyism elsewhere. Nobody cares how popular WoW is.

BS, I know of alot of people on systems below req that can play. Thanks for the Fox News report potentv.
WoW will be, and is, the most popular MMO.
I have been playing nothing but AoC for the past few days and it is insanely fun, but it just doesnt have the appeal WoW has. I will stick with it; they need to balance, patch, and tweak some things (the classes all seem underpowered for the first 20 levels).
AoC will be a popular MMO and it will last a while, but it just isnt as good as WoW. its lacking that MMO feeling, problably because its heavily instanced and not as MMO as an MMO should be...its set up like Guild Wars in a sense.
Well we all knew this was coming. Ive played wow and it is getting older. it is a more wider fan based i agree with that. Still numbers do not lie, and it is a fact. AoC has over 400,000 players in one week from the day it came out. it is a mature game and probably will be more twoards an older group which is probably what they were headed for. Either way we cannot know what will happen in the months to come. Ive seen thread after thread bashing AoC, saying it will kill the mmo genre. Well untill then it took WoW a little bit to get where it is now, so in time we can see were AoC will stand out.
