AGP or PCI, is it a matter of motherboard only or is ti combined with thw processor too? THANKS!!!!!kotsosantOuch - I had a 9200SE AGP and it was a bad card. Also a very old card - the PC I bought it with would now be around 6+ years old. If it has an AGP graphics card, then it is unlikely to be able to support anything but an AGP graphics card, and even if you did upgrade that to a more recent model you wouldn't be able to get the full potential out of it as some other part of your PC would become the new bottleneck for performance. If your budget is only around the cost of a new game, then you would get a bit of a boost from another AGP card, but in all likelihood, if you want to play new games at a decent framerate and resolution it is time to bite the bullet and buy a new machine. Post the rest of your specs - CPU, RAM etc. and what sort of games you are wanting to play and people can advise whether it is better to buy a new PC or spend money upgrading this old one.
TC if you are currently using AGP, most likely, your motherboard only supports AGP for graphics, limiting you on purchasing options for an upgrade. Your power supply might also limit you on options.
What you should do is download CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) run it, and click the Mainboard tab at the middle top area. At the bottom section of the Mainboard tab, you will see a section for Graphics Interface - if it says PCI-Express - you have a lot more options.
PCI is not the same as AGP or PCI-Express - PCI slots are shorter and white, and you will see 2-4 (usually) at the bottom of your motherboard - PCI-Express and AGP are at the top of the board, just under the bottom of the memory slots, and under the CPU. AGP slots are a brown color, PCI-Express can come in Black and/or Blue.
