Aion gets a 6.5. Fair score?

Gamespot just released their review of Aion after 2+ months of the game being out. It scored a 6.5

The good:

• Visuals impress both technically and artistically
• First 10 to 12 levels are a joy to play
• Fast-paced and intuitive combat system.

The bad:

• Grinding quickly becomes an obtrusively big part of gameplay
• Servers seem unable to cope with large-scale PVP battles
• Invisible walls make flying much less fun than it should be
• Sound design is all over the place.

Whats your guys' opinions? I only played the trial, but after hitting level 15 I could kind of see where the game was going, and that was grinding. There was just zero incentive to quest.

Aion is really a love it or hate it game. I personally hate it.

seems like they're having an exspansion (or something like one)sometime soon and from watching the trailer it seems that they really improved a lot of things in the game so the game should get a better rating bythen.

It says something when the user rating is 8.1 . That's why it's good to take several sources into consideration when deciding about a game. Not every review will match your personal opinion (or even fall into the same ball park).

6.5 is a bit low. I would rate it around an 8. Its not the greatest game ever, but I like it, and I plan on playing it for the forseeable future.

The game needs abit of work, thankfully NCsoft are still putting in work in trying to improve the current state of the game, I think the chat interface can be clunky at times, there is alot of spam/bots and annoying bobblehead/giant/midget characters that look odd when running. I am also finding gaps where you would need to grind up to a recommended level to comfortably approach the next quest. I am at level 21 atm and the game has slowly gone downhill since arriving in Eltnen, I probably would give it around 7 i'd say a 6.5 is fair.illmatic87

Real, though, the game does need work, but i don't agree with some of the points Calvert made about the game, especially the crafting system. I really can understand how it seems like getting higher quality objects can seem like luck for people at the minimum craft level, but it gets much easier to do this at higher craft levels. Also, it is extremely profitable, and does not feel like your wasting time for nothing. Gear matters, it helps you out, and its better if you can make it than have to go by some random chance of it dropping in my opinion.

how much average amount i spent on work orders to get to 33 gear level armor smithing: 600~800k.

How much two level 30 items I crafted sell for: 1mil kinah ea.

I didn't like the game, I would rate it a 5/10.

I would give it 7.5 -8.0 i dont play anymore way to much grinding! And the grinding is very boring compared to WOW, WAR, LOTRO.

It seems a bit low compared to what they've given to some other MMORPGs in the past. But haven't played it yet so dunno, maybe it does suck.ManicAce

pretty sure this isn't EXACTLY what happened, but face it, when you see the score and you read the actual written review, two different scores pop up in your head.

From what I've heard of people who have reached the higher levels and then quit, this seems to be right

Hmm Dragon age did not have good hype marketing, so its safe to say its not a hyped game. Why people like it so much? I dont know, but in comparison with new games, Dragon age has enough content to be considered a "massive singleplayer rpg" As it has been called!!!

If the text you posted from gamespot is correct, then its true that Dragon age earn got a 9.5 review for the wrong reasons. Since the game is not graphically impressive, neither it is suited for new players. The reason why many people enjoyed Dragon age on pc is because its a hardcore rpg that while it holds the hardcore pc rpg aspects..... it also contains impressive story and characters plus impressive locations.

I can understand the reason that so many people liked the game on the pc. Since they all want non dudmbed down hardcore rpgs that are meant for the pc, with pc control scheme and not console feel!! But i cannot understand why the gamespot review has a 9.5 which is pretty much not what the rating 9.0-9.5 equals according to gamespot rating system. Hmm perhaps gamespot decide to rate a game with the standards of the pc gamers for a change. Or the reviewer was a hardcore pc rpg player, therefore it seemed right to the reviewer to rate accordingly.

As for me? While i am not a fan of this type of rpg. I have to say that the game has plenty of qualitty in its content but Production values/polish is nowhere near a 9.5!! The graphics for example are unimpressive for a 2009 game!!!

After level 30 i lost all interest, the grind was so repetitive and uninteresting that even the most patient Buddhist monk would lack the willpower to stand it.
