So I bought the UM150 with the Verizon Wireless network the other day, and because of my situation, an air card is basically the only means I will have of playing xbox live. I've read some forums on data usage and decided that a 5GB limit is actually fairly large when it comes to online gaming (it gives me about 70 hours a month of online gaming, which is plenty). I went ahead and purchased a CRADLEPOINT 300 Router as well, and now I was just wondering if anyone who has experience in the matter would tell me if an Air Card setup will run fast enough.

I don't speak from experience, only from tethering my 3G ATT phone to my laptop to surf, but I would think the latency would be atrocious. I don't even find it particularly fast for basic web browsing. I mean it's ok for surfing and checking email on the go, but I would hate to have to use it for gaming.

I've played Team Fortress 2 at my friends house who uses the Verizon network. The ping was usually around 130-150ms, not terrible and very playable.

ADSL? Never heard of it, but when I looked it up it seems to be fairly complicated. I also will not be able to use any wired lines period, because of firewall issues with the existing wired network.

What? Any ping above 75 is bad IMO.

I use the Franklin CDU-680 modem through Millenicom's service which utilizes the Sprint Cellular Data Network. I get pings around 200 ms and I don't have the 5gb cap that Verizon places (I switched from Verizon once they started enforcing the cap as my bandwith usage runs quite high). 200ms is very playable. I use it over Xbox Live and my PC in fps and other type 'twitch' games and can still play competitively without atrocious lag.

The only thing though is that sometimes servers will boot you for having a ping around 200ms. Go to speedtest.net and see what your ping times are. If they're around the 100-200ms range, I'd be satisfied. However, if you have the option to use DSL or Cable, I'd go that route. If Verizon and Sprint cellular are your only two options, I'd consider Millenicom. If Verizon cellular is your only broadband option, then you really have no choice. Satellite ping times are worse than dial-up and dial-up pings = are you kidding me?

I think you will be pleasantly surprised though. I wish you pleasant fraggin in cyberspace!

Alright, I'm going to test it out with the UM150 first, but I'll keep your setup in mind so that I have another option out there. Thanks a lot man
