Building yourself doesn't really save you money, it only saves you money if you've got the software already and you know how to fix the problems you'll ultimatley get.

Alienware is pretty expensive, considering you have to ask this question you'll be better of going to a better online retailer that aren't overpriced but still offer a warranty, I don't know of any in the US.

A good point that people rarely address when talking about home builds. Anyone can build their own machine, but not just anyone can deal with not having tech support to talk to when things go south. And buying a legal copy of windows is not exactly cheap either. Not that everyone actually does that...

$109 for Windows Vista Home Premium 64 is cheap. Two builds ago a copy of XP was $150ish.

And you get waranties for every part you buy lest they fail. And unlike the customer service monkeys at PC manufacturers, the people at newegg.com are helpful and care. Also... if you do everything right ... nothing does go wrong. I've built my past seven PCs, and three for other people. Only issue I've ever had with hardware ever was one faulty PSU, one faulty GPU. Both times RMAd and replaced at no cost to myself (even when the replacement GPU was a better model because failed model discontinued) nigh instantly.

even if you don't want to do it yourself, there are plenty of other companies to go through with MUCH MUCH better customization options than alienware and MUCH cheaper. I had an alienware and it was nothing but problems. Went with Cyberpower more recently, and very happy so far.

Of course self built is the absolute best way to go. Plus theres more pride in it ;)
