As of right now, I'm drawn into the cool look of the alienware computers, and actually with some looking into it they are somewhat worth it compared to getting a dell xps with the same specs, but then while looking around, people are saying you could build an alienware "clone" for alot cheaper. But I'm unsure about finding the right chassis, finding the right motherboard, wiring everything, and installing the OS. Is it really worth it to build my own high performance system and save alot of money, or should I just take the loss, settle for less, and buy the alienware? Also if anyone and recommend a better system I'm open for suggestions

dont buy alienware. They are crap compared to what you can build for the same price. If you buy alienware, you are going to spend 25oo just for the name and labor. Besides alienware customer supports is made of fail. Build your own man, trust me, you wont regret it. Just take the time and learn up on computers. Besides, there are computer cases that are MUCH better than alienware anyway. For the price you would spend on al alienware pc, you will be able to get better components for and still probably come out cheaper.

I am really considering building one, because I would deffinatly want to have something I made, and all the parts I want to put into it, with more money to spend, then have a very limited choice with alienware

well just build your own, it will be better than what you can get from alienware (if you spend the same price) or just as good for alot cheaper. I built my pc for $660 and i score 9000 on 3dmark06....which isint bad for what i spent. If you do decide to build your own, dont worry about screwing anything up. Its easy. Must components you just plug in and your good. The only thing i read the instructions for was where the placesment of the power and reset button wires and where the usb wires connect to the mother board.

There is not best price. A case is a case. But i can tell you what to look for. Try to find a case that has atleast a bare minimum of a 120 mm intake and 120mm exaust fan. But the more the better. You can never have enought case cooling. If you are willng to spend about $120, try the antec 900 case. It has great cooling.

Mine was 85$, its alienware-like i guess. NXZT Apollo Black. Visit:

NCIX.com/Tigerdirect.com(my personal fave, easy site nav)/newegg.com(US only)

Just read the reviews and etc, they usually have good info about the cases such as size, shipping/ return habits of the sites, and most importantly cooling issues. Cooling and space are definetly the most important things to look for in a case.

you can get powersupplie with cases, but buy them sepratly as the ones that come with cases are of low quality. Good brands for powersupplies are roswill corsair and ocz. If you do want to build a pc, buy through newegg or tigerdirect. ( i recoment newegg )

Just read around and do some research in the forums about what goes with what, what you need, etc. The most complex thing I've ever done inside of a computer was changing ram (lol), and now I'm at the stage where I've got all the parts picked out for my computer and will be ordering them soon. It's not hard at all to build a PC from the looks of things. It's just the prospect of "oh no, I have to handle a graphics card and a motherboard, I don't know how to" that is scary, but once you read around, watch some youtube videos, you realize that it's basically like Lego. Put some cards into place, screw in some screws into your case, attach some wires which are ALL labelled for you (and each part comes with instruction manuals to help you as well), and you're good to go. Pre-mades are good for convenience, but you can save ALOT of money building your own. Plus, when you feel your computer's starting to get old, instead of having to go out and buy another brand new one, you will be comfortable enough with computers to just go in and upgrade a few pieces and be good to go. Definitely worth it to build your own. Here's a youtube video to help you get started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1NxsHpaL_s Make sure to ask alot of questions here if you are building your own to make sure all the parts you pick out are compatible and what-not. Also look at it as a fun experience - BUILDING YOUR OWN PC!!! How cool is that? Here's a list of things you need: Motherboard CPU RAM Video Card Harddrive CD Drive Case (I'm gunna be getting the Antec 900, it looks so cool!) Power Supply Anyways, I'm a noob too, but after reading around for about a week I already feel like I've learned alot about computers and know enough to make my own. Plus one final thing, it's CHEAP to make your own. Without including monitor, I will probably spend something like $1250 Canadian on mine, yet I've seen Dell XPS's selling for $2000+ that still aren't as good as mine will be. That's ALOT of money saved by learning how to do something as fun as building a computer!

ok here is a decent build :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021&Tpk=antec%2b900 I personally thing the 900 is overrated, but seeing as how everyone recomends it, here

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128337 Mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220174 Ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182149 I personally have this powersupply.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148288 One of the best 7200 rpm harddrives out

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106100 Dvd Drive

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119230 Extra sata cable, just in case :P

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115052 Great intel cpu for the price

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500019 I have this video card. Can max out COD4/Frontlines/COH no problem :D

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006 Sound Card.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1683520001 I recomend getting this cpu cooler as the stock intel one is complete trash, and the pushpin design has a nasty habbit of popping out.

I have a feeling i forgot something:?

EDIT: I forgot the Operating System. Ill leave that up to you as it is more of a personal preferance.

Okay looked at everything, I upgraded to a E8400 processor, so does that last thing still apply? Right now my overall price comes out to a grand total of $1,169.25. Anyone know of any promo codes?

If you decide to build it yourself, this is one of many good how to build a PC guides that are available to help you out....

http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/144

Also someone earlier mentioned a case that would give you that Alienware look.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025

I have this case and am using it for a new PC build ....it has a rebate going on it right now and if you purchase any other components from Newegg, they will combine shipping costs....

For me shopping around for components and finding the best prices is half the fun...the other half is assembling it all (which will take a bit of effort on your part), and will save you money. It's up to you, but I would think you'll get a bit more satisfaction from putting a PC together yourself

Set your budget, shop, compare, check prices, get your parts organized and plan your build........good luck which ever way you decide to go.

The NZXT Apollo is a great case. Its very sleek and the black paint looks amazing with the Blue LEDs that come with the case. The side fan is also blue LED, (there arent many pics of it). It has a lot of room for expansion and it cools very well.

As of right now the NZXT apollo is on my wanted system, the 900 was, but the apollo is almost the same, with one less fan, but it's not like I'm going to need that much cooling, because I will probably barely overclock, i'm still on the variable end though, If I found a good red LED case I would put alot of consideration into it and probably see if the people here would recommend it.

You can also add an extra 120MM fan in the front by removing the front panel and unscrewing the hard drive cage. I added an Antec 120mm case fan w/led and 3 speed fan control which will help cool even better......this case is really good size and quality for a mid-tower ATX and the price is right.

Just one thing to note, the motherboard listed has only 1 PCI Express x16 slot (which is the slot that video cards go in) so if you are thinking of doing any SLI then you would want one with 2 PCI-E x16 slots. But if you're not planning on doing SLI then that one is good too. :)

You are rich? If so, getting an alianware would just be easier.
