Well without the motherboard we can't tell if it's even worth upgrading or purchasing.

My guess it's not even worth purchasing since a Geforce 6600 256MB video card is a AGP slot so your better off buying a new computer for $600.

We are trying to talk Australia currency here, it's practically impossible to purchase that has some power behind it for sub 1000...

I suggest these things:

Keep the case you have, it will save you a few dollars.

Purchase these from your local IT store:

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 - 1.8GHz $80

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-945GCM-S2L Motherboard $60

RAM: CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 $60

GPU: Galaxy 9600GT 512MB DDR3 $135

Drive: Pioneer 20x SATA 215BK $35

HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL 5000AAKS CAVIAR 500GB $95

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 450W $65

That's one of the best bang for the bucks I can come up with on the spot. We could go cheaper, but you'd be loosing a GREAT deal of performance, especially if you want to be playing the likes of Crysis or CoD4..

You would be better off getting the case and some money from him...if possible. Go into a proper computer store (not anything like Dick Smith Electronics or Officeworks) and ask for the specs posted above to be put into the case...:)

Gamespot is glitching for me none stop, I truly am disgusted by the amount of it.

In simple,

Get his case, leave all the parts inside of it to him. Get him to "cough up the money" :P. Purchase those parts that I've listed from a PC Store. Go home, set the system up yourself. Be happy. Play Crysis.

Ehh...prices vary greatly from different stores. A good IT store should be able to put it all together for around the 60-100 price mark.

Gee, it really does depend. For a first time build, you have to have a lot of patience. Check every step carefully, making sure what you've done is correct. If your unsure of what your doing, I suggest you see a pro before you do anything stupid to the system..:)

Enjoy.

Alright, if your IT guy stocks them, which ever option you can afford, get:

5.1 Logitech X-530's for $80

Or if your low on cash, just get a set of

2.1 Logitech LS21 for $30.

Both of those speakers are good, but if you want 5.1, go for the 5-30's, they'll blow your mind.

That whole system is a piece of crap. Seriously, a broken HDD, are you kidding me?

You want a 300 Australian dollar computer, that can play Crysis? Mate, a proper GPU and a CPU will cost you at least that...:?

I highly recommened this LCD for the pricepoint and quality:

ACERX193W 19'' Black $200-220 (Australian Pricing, as is everything else I've posted)

The price point for all good LCD's is relativlely high. But therefore, you know that your getting exceptional quality. Many of my mates have this monitor for there gaming, and it's a stunning bang for the buck.

In relation to the comment that the user above made, he is, from what I gather, saying that you should go with my word.

Anyway, the parts that I have listed is the best possible solution to get you into PC gaming for a budget price tag. You'd be hard pressed to find better.

ok so added it up and its a bit but i can afford it. problem is my parents think id probably save more getting a new computer which probably has the same or more power. anyone wanna tell me how much that computer not built by me would actually cost?
