Everyone who has doubt (or simply hasn't been keeping up to date) about Warhammer, read this stuff right here. This confirms all my assumptions and faith about Mythic. This game, truly, will be the last MMO you will ever buy...at least for a few several years.

Click. Read the whole thread before anyone disagrees. Granted that you all have seen Warhammer videos...there are obviously those out there who "think it looks like crap" or is a WoW clone. Both assumptions are far from the truth, because, like this lady said, "You know all those videos you've seen floating around everywhere? They don't even come close to conveying exactly how good the game truly is!"

You can find that quote in Kederessa's post here.

The game is obviously not going to be anywhere near as fun to watch on youtube as it is to actually play it. And lets face it...people automatically hate Warhammer because it will completely and utterly destroy Blizzard and their World of Warcraft game...that and because the game is just simply already popular among millions. It's easy to say that, if anyone thinks this game is crap, then they obviously haven't been doing their homework. It makes me sound like a fanboy, but it's more than true. I have my complaints (many) about World of Warcraft and I've always hated Blizzard, but there's no denying (Gamespot search > World of Warcraft > check rating) that it's a great game.

But, the time has come. Mythic isn't just creating a game...they're making "a total hobby experience" as Paul Barnett says in this video. Honestly though, I hadn't been keeping up to date on this game. I only recently just started reading up on it within the past week. And in the past week I've learned so much to the point where, I want to be called a Warhammer Online fanboy. This game, if pulled off right (luckily we have such creative minds working at Mythic), will completely revolutionize the gaming industry. This is the MMORPG of the future, and from a good word from the testers out there that I've come across in the past week, I'm confident that this game will be next to impossible to top, as far as MMORPGs go (of course, if people take heed that people want a TOTAL HOBBY EXPERIENCE and not a game, they JUST might start looking into becoming passionate about online gaming...not grabbing peope's wallets and screwing them like the guys at Blizzard do on a daily basis (or Sony Online Entertainment... lawl).

Anyway, just thought everyone should be aware, if they're not already.

Then, like I said, you haven't done any of your homework. People with statements such as that watch a couple videos and that is their final statement.

Skullheart: My advice to you is to resist the urge to read any post on a forum that is less than two lines long. You'll find your time spent on the Internet is a whole lot less stressful.

On topic: I seem to be cursed when it comes to MMORPGs, any that I express interest in, seem to crash and burn - and the ones I chose to ignore tend to be incredibly successful (yes, I blame myself for WoW's success and EQ2's less than brilliant launch). So what I'm trying to say is that I've been fairly indifferent about WAR because of the nature of it.

Either way, if any IP is going to make a mockery of the Warcraft IP, its the Warhammer one. Judging by the hugely pathetic attempt at a second expansion pack (Wrath of the Lich King), all it takes is some decent competition to tumble WoW. Subscription numbers took a hit after LOTRO arrived and that was a truly shocking game - so I dread to think what will happen when the PvP crowd bugger off to play WAR.

i don't see the point in wow i got to lvlv 70 then that was it really, when you reach 70 all u got to do is get better items which is quite boring

LOTRO has a story i really like it has similar features to wow but i couldn't get in to it.

WAR defiantly getting this, its a new and fresh mmorpg, with a good mix between pve and pvp and its warhmmer!

I "was" a BETA tester for this game, and I personally think it's horrible.

I played for a few days, and the whole time it felt like I was playing a poor mans WoW. I can't really say much more about the game (NDA) but after hyping it up for months I was EXTREMELY dissapointed.

Oh, and the visuals are far WORSE than WoW, and the game runs twice as bad.

I thought it would be good before I saw the videos which showed that it was a 100% WoW clone with a few extra features. I'm not saying it will be a WoW clone but from what has been shown it really is but they might have time to fix it.

skullheart, have u even played the beta? i thought the game was going to be awesome too, untill i got in the beta.

WAR will not kill WoW, a lot of pvpers will jump to WAR, play for a bit and then come back to wow. imo the only mmo that can compete with wow is age of conan

Why would you play WOW for PVP? It's not skill based and nore will WAR be : It's all about the level of your character or what gear you have lol, how boring is that?

Do you realize how early beta it is? I have .... Experience with the game .... Its extremely early beta... this is why they should be more careful with who they add to the beta test. People like you who are just looking for a free MMO to play rather than actually testing.

Your mistake.

I am not gonna trust a pen and paper game maker to make their first mmo and it be any good at all.

Ill end up with saying that, as early as the beta is (which it is very early) the game is tons of funs. Mythic has not let me down and the finished game will be even 1,000x better if thats even possible. The game is so early in beta that there are things you cant even do.. places you cant go, races you cant pick. There are TONS of placeholder graphics right now. The Haters will jump on as quickly as possible and beat at the game in its infancy stages so they can appear to be right. All i am going to do is smile and laugh, and wait until the game gets closer and close to being done. When that happens I will sit back as the haters realize oh... you were right, this is alot of fun.

First of all let me say this. I am not a Blizzard hater, I loved Warcraft 3 and all that jazz, but World of Warcraft did not hit it for me. I already have someplace to go and do the same thing over and over again in hopes of little, if any, reward, its called work.

That being said, I have very high hopes for this game. I played the original table top game, and dabbled in the pen and paper game, which was a little lame. The game looks astounding, and there is a level of balance that could make the rock-paper-scissors mentality of WOW a thing of the past. The game will need some serious work, and it will take everyone a long time to get used to it. From the looks of it, the system of development is a bit different from what people are used to (WOW) so expect a lot of complaining. Hopefully they will not be idiots and give into the demands of the five year olds on their forums, like what happened to Star Wars Galaxies.

Also I agreed, never read anything less than two lines long, those are usually the trolls no one cares about.

Yawn!;)

For two and a half years we have been hearing about how Game X is the WOW killer. The list of Game X's in the bargain bin now is a long one.

Bashing the King of the Moutain is the new American hobby. Despite $600 million (1997 ticket prices) in box office, apparently no one saw, or liked Titanic. WoW has been a smashing success and has expanded theMMO market beyond hardcore gamers and into the masses, but apparently, no one ever played it. Play any other MMO out there and just listen to the people denying having ever played or enjoyed anything about WoW (usually to make a Barren's chat reference during the same playsession).

I played WoW. I enjoyed WoW. Choices were made by Mr. Kaplan that made WoW a game that I was not interested in playing any longer. I stopped playing. I am disgusuted with Blizzard for letting him undermine a game that was launched with such potential and will approach other Blizzard games more cautiously henceforth, rather htan still assuming that if it is Blizzard, it will be an A+ title.

That said, WoW is NOT going away. There is no WoW killer on the horizon. In a year's time, WoW will still be the genre leader. No one game is going to take it down in this generation of MMOs. Tabula Rasa looks great, with a different kind of setting. It will pull some customers. Conan doesn't look fun to me, but it is highly anticipated and unless it is buggy as Vanguard, it will find a playerbase. Warhammer probably has more going for it than those other two titles and will probably be the winner of the newest wave of MMOs (starting with LotRO), assuming that EA Mythic is Mythic with a large financial backer and that EA isn't dictating to Mythic how to make an MMO. The number of quality titles coming will hurt WoW, no doubt. But when the dust settles, the MMO market will much tighter (No more WoW and the also-rans) but WoW's huge playerbase will keep it on top, even if the gap narrows considerably.

That is just an educated guess on my part, of course. Warhammer could pass WoW in subscribers, but there is no way it is going to surge too far ahead. The competition could even lead Blizzard to make some changes at the top to make WoW what its original designers envisioned.

If you are jazzed about WAR, great. But there is no need for the incessant WoW bashing. If it isn't your thing now, move on and let it go. Yes, I have lost faith in Blizzard as a company, but I don't feel the need to bash them to hype a game I am interested in. Tabula Rasa, Conan, and Warhammer will live or die based on the quality of Tabula Rasa, Conan, and Warhammer, NOT the quality of World of Warcraft. The people who were gonna leave WOW because it "sucks" have gone. The quality of the upcoming games will determine whether they have a chance to siphon some of those people still playing WoW away.

And, lastly, Warhammer does sound good. DAOC was great. But, remember, not everyone likes PvP.

OP needs to calm down, just wait for the game to come out and play it yourself. It's all about opinion and preferences. A "good" game should be defined as something that keeps you entertained or you find entertaining. Many people will find Warhammer Online entertaining, but then again many people find Deer Hunter entertaining.

You don't know alot about betas do ya lol... Every mmorpg i've ever played in beta has hardly changed from it. Warhammer online is officially in beta right now and they've put about 4000 more people in this week. The game is set for a Q1 08 release and that means they'll be finishing off the final 4 races and polishing. There wont be any drastic change and pretty much everything you see in the Dwarf and green skin areas will remain the same.

The game looks like **** and so does the combat and everything else, there isnt enough time for them to completly redo the game.

Threads like this are asinine as the choice doesn't have to be binary: you will be able to play both (and like both) should you so choose.

My faith in Mythic goes only as far as three absolutes I believe...

1. They cant design a dungeon to save their lives.

2. GRIND

3. The PvP will be better than any other MMO out there, but you will need to go through the first two points to get to it.

Wow's hugely pathetic attempt at a second expansion pack? The game was just announced and there has been barely any information released, and it is already hugely pathetic? It's going to take more than decent competition to tumble WoW, plenty of MMORPGs have tried and all have failed. WoW might've taken a "hit" after LOTRO arrived but it wasn't anything substantial, keep in mind 1 less subscriber is also a "hit". Also, wasn't Guild Wars supposed to be a WoW killer? If all the WoW PvPers wanted a different PvP experience I'm sure they all would be playing GW by now.

I play WoW, but i'm fan of Warhammer too, which i think Warhammer is better than the Warcraft World.

Warhammer is a PVP based game, PVP is endgame and everything will lean more towards PVP.

World of Warcraft is a PVE based game, PVE is endgame and everything will lean more towards PVE.

Why are we comparing these again? It would be more sensible to compare GW and Warhammer. Not Warhammer and WoW.

I'll check it out when it's released, or if I can get into beta. Hopefully it'll be as fun as WoW was originally. It's a great game, but I've been feeling a bit burnt out on it for awhile. Most of the more recent MMOs I've tried are okay, but I end up coming back to WoW for one reason or another. Most of them have been more "casual" friendly, but lack the fun factor. Hopefully Warhammer has it.

You can say all you want about Warhammer Online. The fact of the matter is I know EA and Mythic far better than anyone on this board. I've played their games for over 10 years. They always drop the support after the first few years and fail. All of their previous games are no longer being played. Also DAOC is barely hitting the 20k mark for subscribers. Which btw had a game with over 100k subscribers. http://www.camelotherald.com

This is their own fault due to their hard headedness. They released an expansion which destroyed the game. Their games are great but they really drop the ball after a few years the MMO is out. Maybe Warhammer will be different, but history tells a different story.

That's like saying why listen to country when you can listen to Tool? I hate country and love Tool but you might be different.

Well it's not really fair to call it a WoW clone because the Warhammer universe came before blizzard's warcraft universe. In fact some would argue that warcraft was some what a rip-off of the warhammer universe. However that post doesn't really tell me anything. It's good that she liked the game once playing it but it still is one person's opinion. I'll have to wait and see it for myself. DAoC was awesome though so here's hoping.

Blizzard has outright stated they borrowed some of the ideas from the warhammer universe. Even though I do like the warcraft one better.

Close... Warcraft and Starcraft were originally developed under the Warhammer and Warhammer 40K Licenses (respectively). The deal fell through and Blizzard adjusted accordingly, giving us Warcraft and Starcraft.

I wouldn't refer to either as a rip off or a clone, but, to each his own I suppose.

I should ammend my last post, I loved DAoC before ToA. ToA ruined the game. All games start seeing a lack of support after a few years. You also have to take into account WoW came along and stole a bunch of subs. The older games' subscribers are all pretty low from what I know. The new questing system in WAR gives me hope though. I just hope that the grind isn't as bad as DAoCinit's 45-50 grind. That grind seemed like it took forever.
