Hey guys...I was thinking of changing a few things in my rig (case, cooler etc) to let me overclock my cpu even more at stable temperatures, since it starts getting very hot (near 90 degrees celsius under Prime 95 when I OC'd to 3.6Ghz). Currently here is my set up:

NZXT Lexa Blackline Case

Asus P6T Deluxe V1 Mobo

Intel Core i7 920 OC'd @ 3.01GHz

Akasa Nero CPU Cooler

6Gb Corsair DDR3 @ 1333MHz

GTX 260 (216) Maxcore BFG

Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic

Cooler Master Real Power M850W PSU

2 x 750GB HDD WD Caviar Blue

Windows Vista 64 Home Premium

Samsung Syncmaster 2232BW 22" Monitor 1680 x 1050 / 60.0 Hz

Any advice? I'm in the UK so Newegg isn't really an option for me, any UK product website links would be useful :) I appreciate all the help!

Getting thermal paste may be able to shave off a few Celsuis. Go for something like OCZ freeze. I reapplied my thermal paste, which I originally used Arctic Silver 7, and I lowered about 10 C easy. BTW, is your i7 C0 or D0 stepping?

I find that very hard to beleive, unless you messed up applying it the first time.

I think my i7 is C0, since I got it back in January. I had it built by a company called Wired2Fire, so I haven't actually tried playing around with it just yet. I was just looking for a bit of advice, before I did so. The main things I was considering changing were the Case....to possibly a Cooler Master HAF 932 and the cooler. I don't think I'm ready for Water Cooling just yet, but I have been considering options like the Cool IT Domino ALC and the Corsair H50 LCLC.

*Shrugs* That was the second time I applied the Arctic Silver 5 too on my i7 rig, and the temps were fairly poor both times, but then again OCZ freeze is much easier to apply and you don't need to spread it like AS5. So perhaps the applying was off. I have also had the tube for about 2 years or so as well. I went from around the 80's to mid to lower 70's after the switch with my CPU clocked at 4.0ghz after the switch though. And I meant 5 not 7 :P .

Don't do it. If you're putting water in your rig, go hard or go home.

Agreed, If you are going to go water, you have to spend a very large amount of money to get a decent set. The primary reason why you can't get such a high overclock has a lot to do with the C0 stepping. Nothing you can change about that unfortunately.

Ok, thanks for the advice :) The only thing I worry about the high end coolers such as the Prolimatech Megahalem is that they look pretty beastly and whether or not this kind of weight is good for the motherboard? Is there any of relieving this pressure on the motherboard? Any good HSF that you can recommend to give good cooling for a Core i7 920 w/ C0 stepping?

This one is exceptional. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185093

It's still pretty big though. Just make sure the case fits it.

You have a crossbar stuck to the back of the motherboard to help support it, so it won't fall off. And it most certanly shouldn't snap your mobo unless you do something stupid. Otherwise the manufacturor is going to have a lawsuit on his hands. I can't reccomend any coolers since I havn't looked in ages since I did my W/C setup a while back.

Ok....this looks like a really good Cooler for a Core i7. What do you guys think of me changing my case from the NZXT Lexa Blackline to a Cooler Master HAF 932, because I wanted a case with better cooling, less noise, but one that's not much deeper.

Would a Scythe Mugen 2 fit in my current case? And is it worth replacing the slipstream with a Noctua NF-P12?
