i only console game but i found this game for 20$ and i am installing it as we speak, i was wondering if there are like real freaks online for cs:s , are there some ppl so good, that they like don't even zoom when they use sniper rifles, k thats a bit of a silly question. but yea, will i get hammered

Yes, you WILL get hammered. However, that being said, just keep playing. Practice makes perfect and ignore any jerks you meet online.

That doesn't require much skill at all (the non-zooming comment). You'll find CSS defines skill much better than console games.
I've been getting "hammered" in every version of Counter-Strike for years now; it really just comes down to what level at which you're being hammered. I wouldn't give it up for the world :)
I get better everytime I come back to source. Ive been playing for alot more than a year now and I'm still not as good as most of my friends but Ive gotten like uber good and pretty much mastered my shooting skills. nd yeah youll get hammered
1st couple of games might be quite bad because you will get owned but when you pull off the lucky headshot giving you the kill to death ratio of 1/26 you'll feel alot better about that you would in most games.
There are alot of pretty good players around. Just play and learn from your experience. Its like that for most games. Its still the best online FPS to me after so many years. Just have fun and don't bother about your K/D ratios.Â
Definately will unfortunately, I've been in the community for 6+ years and it never gets any easier to start. Most people have a decent amount of skill but you will get a few kills here and there and eventually you will break even.Â

Funny thing is I used to be really excellent at FPS, but maybe b/c I am older and have less time to play now (or maybe my reaction time is slower) I just can't compete against CS players. I get killed before I even see anyone...it's pretty frustrating.

haha, as well as in the Forums! I too think that my skill will deteriorate with time, and its not what it used to be (I'm 30), but I always play servers with people inside my "age group" so I will continue playing FPS 'till they develop a mind controller that doesn't require fisical reflexes and stuff. :lol:

Play against bots first and get a feel for the PC version of the game. Learn the maps abit, how to buy guns quickly, and be sure you know how to make good use of the radar. I also recommend joining a server that has no friendly fire and be sure not to throw flashbangs at your teammates during battle. *Thats just one good way to piss off another player Good Luck out there! :D

ha yea you're gonna get rocked just dont cry when it happens lol. and you should try and join a smaller server like 20 people or less. dont join any big massacre servers with 40 people cuz you dont even learn anything in there anyway. you should also try and learn the maps right off the bat so you know where people are and can come from. just follow everybody else, but dont get too close and block them lol that pisses people off. oh and be sure to just ignore any negative comments people say about your skill in that game, if you suck people will call you a noob and if you're good people will call you a cheater theres no way to get away from being called something in that game lol.
  Counter Strike Source has a far small learning curve fortantly compared to the original. Hit Boxs are far more responsive and advanced that you are capable of killing people much easier then you could in the original.. In the original I remembered on numerous occassions on when I never worried when I had 1hp left.. Because chances are it was either hit or miss due ot the shady hit boxs they had.. In CSS for the most part alot of times you will take some damage for the kills you deliver.
Well yeah, the cs1.6 hitboxes are crap IMO. Source feels less precise sometimes but in reality it is because bullets are no longer inexplicably passing through people. To the original poster, yes you will get owned but gaining skill is what makes the game satisfying to learn the nuance of. Coming from a console it will be a lot different, hope you have a good reaction time. Aim for the head and burst fire, stay behind cover, ambush people by listening for footsteps etc.
k thnx guys for the tip, i played my first game and got hammered, it feels so different to go to the pc after 9 yrs of console gaming, i managed to get one - three kills in my first couple of games, but yea it was fun
you might not if you have experience with many other FPS games, preferably the more realistic ones with recoil on the weapons, i use to play cs 1.6 alot before i played source and i jumped right into source fine, it was alot easier

Dont worry dude, I have just started play PC games recently, I played BF2142 demo yesterday, picked up a team in a plaine, and then flew it into a hill because I didnt know the controls though, I got put on the other team. I dont think they liked it, funny as hell though.
Let's put it this way, even the bots will PWN you (have some servers with beast bots, that will kill you by sneezing!). :p CS:S isn't a game for those who hate to be shot at and die (then sit out an entire round). But if you can handle it, more power to you. I don't play it as much, since I dislike turnbased games (my time is valuable, and playtime I'd like more than to wait until everyone else dies before playing the next round).
To be honest mate yes...the game is good but the main stray of people you meet on the game are not nice. The game should have a practice mode that allows you to get familiar with buying items at the start of a game and just getting use to the games Guns. To be honest i have never really thought much of the game. Inless you played it from day one its almost immpossible to get into, and Team Killers tend to be rife on CS servers. As a matter of fact after some of the experiences i have had on that game i rarley play FPS online anymore. Not only that some people have better internet connections than others and you will find in an FPS this makes quite a difference.
Not only having high speed broadband, having 1600dpi mice to turn around and fire back before you can even register you've been hit. And for the top players, having a dedicated mapped controller to the mix. CS:S is a "prove yourself" game, and if you're going to play it get all of the equipment first to survive, as those top winners all have it. Best way to test it all is to fight the toughest bots, because no player will be faster since the server bots with their 0 lag and 0.0003ms ping. Every other player (that's not a cheat) will have 20+ms slower pings.
