[QUOTE="augustlight"]No, you're not that original.Johnny_Rock
I lol'd!
Same. My pwnage meter for the day has been filled. ;)
Obviously I don't. But why do you hate the company TC?flipin_jackass
I don't hate 'em, but I do think they're horribly overrated and unapologetically unoriginal. Everything they've put into a game has been pretty much directly pulled from some other franchise or IP, with Warhammer and Warhammer 40K getting the worst of it, and I find their games bland and boring. That being said, originality doesn't seem to be all that big a deal nowadays, their games are easily the most polished and well written code that I've ever experienced, and their art department produces some absolutely breathtaking artwork and cinematics.
I suppose what I feel is more disappointment than hate. If they actually set themselves to creating a fresh, new IP that doesn't shamelessly rip off something Games Workshop has been doing for 20 years, and that actually has energy and character rather than clicking endlessly for phat lootz, imagine what they could accomplish.

THESE are your reasons for hating Blizzard? *sigh*

I think it's a good enough reason... comes down to copying another company and arrogance. I'm not hurting you am I? Awws...Zythyl
Hurting me? Of course you're not hurting me; I barely know you exist, so naturally your comments don't have any impact on me whatsoever.
I just find HATING a company for "copying" (and what company isn't guilty of this?) and being "arrogant" (and I wouldn't call it arrogant - I'd just call it self-promotion, and what company isn't guilty of this?) stupid. That's all.
Hate is a strong word. I'm sure it's highly unlikely that Blizzard did anything to harm you or people closest to you.
I don't hate em, but I don't like their games that much aside from Warcraft 3. None of their games are really inspiring so I don't know why almost every PC gamer is ready to get down on their knees and give the Blizzard CEO a handjob.
I am not a big fan of WarCraft or Warhammer lore but anyone who thinks that StarCraft is significantly based on WH40k needs to get their head checked and read more sci-fi. And Blizzard not original? Their last full game practically redefined the MMO genre.
Edit: And Diablo 2 had different feel and atmosphere from the original Diablo and yet people did not complain. Where is my occult? Honestly D3 looks much better than D2, the outdoor 'oil painting' look made my mouth drop.

Do you know that WH40k did not invent the concept of a Tyranid, in fact the evolution of a 'bug race' had existed since the 1st military sci-fi novel (StarshipTroopers) And look at the early Tyranid art**** they are 50's sci-fi bugs... until Alien came along.
And I am asking you; do you know what a space marine is? Have you played StarCraft? Are you one of those mindless kiddies who thinks Terrans are Space Marines? You think genetically altered, superbly trained sci-fi version of a holy warrior who uses sci-fi conversion of medieval weapons is the same as a souther hick, a reject or a criminal who has been nerve stapled and forced to serve while living in a free society, and blasts loud rock music on the com channels?

I'm not sensitive at all. I'm not even defending Blizzard (although I think Blizzard is a great company); I just find your reasons for hating a company unreasonable. Is that so hard for you to understand? Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean he's being overly sensitive.
You're not bringing very credible reasons for disliking Blizzard; if you did, I'd take you more seriously. But as is, you just sound like one of the millions of mindless Blizzard haters that have cropped up in the last few years ever since World of Warcraft became mega-popular.
[QUOTE="flipin_jackass"]Obviously I don't. But why do you hate the company TC?Zythyl
I have noticed that myself, especially since Starcraft's Terran = Space Marines and Warcraft's Orcs = ... Orcs. The copying of the races was the most apparent thing for me. But that never really bothered me. I mean, most RPG's these days are based on D&D's paper and pencil and they use the system and sames races such as Mages, Elves, Warriors, etc. and I don't hate games like Neverwinter Nights for that.
I am not a big fan of WarCraft or Warhammer lore but anyone who thinks that StarCraft is significantly based on WH40k needs to get their head checked and read more sci-fi. And Blizzard not original? Their last full game practically redefined the MMO genre.

Nobody's accusing Blizzard of taking Warhammer 40K, scratching the name out, and writing Starcraft on it. The two games are different in key ways, but Blizzard stole major elements from 40K. Ever hear of the Tyranids? they're essentially the same thing as the Zerg. sure there are some differences between the two races, but for all intents and purposes they're the same thing.
also, WoW didn't "redefine" the MMO by any means; it refined the genre, yes, but it didn't do anything revolutionary. Every gameplay element in WoW exists in other MMO's, WoW just does it better. That's exactly what I'm saying. They don't do anything original, they just take existing ideas and concepts and ideas and make really well crafted games with them. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, I just want and expect more from a game company.

To the poster above me, I believe that's the reason MCSoft broke away from Blizzard, lack of originality.

Yeah because lineage 2 or any other Korean MMo they are making is so original... I dont care if Blizzard borrowed ideas from other franchises, everybody does that. Btw many believe that Warcraft universe>>>Warhammer. Starcraft universe>>> Warhhammer 40k

Since World of Warcraft is completely different from Everquest and all MMOs before it.
/sarcasm
So Blizzard took advantage of a IP will other companies didn't...they got to the punch first...so what's the big deal?
There's a magical thing called Competition in the galaxy and magically it drives Buisness forward.
Blizzard got ahead of the competition and made great games before anyone thought of making it on that IP....I see no problem.
Though I will say WAR looks alot cooler then WoW and now that SOMEONE is using Warhammer IP they should do a GOOD job and (Don't SAY IT) make a better game then Blizzards.

OMG Warhammer stole the plans for the human race! I hate them.I can't see how you could hate a company unless they were sell outs or changed a incredible game and made it lame. But Blizzard, hasn't done that. There game's are polished, and very fun if you like RPG's. If you don't like there type of games, then that doesn't give you a reason to hate them, that's like me saying I hate a company for making RTS. *Although you didn't say this, and I don't know really why I added it in.*

It's easy to claim they sold out. World of Warcraft was pretty sell-outish.

Because they made the best MMO ever and it got so popular? seriously... They are giving us Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 as pc exclusives in an era that ID, Bioware, Epic and Valve all went multiplatform. you call that sell out?

I'm gonna have to agree with this guy. In no way are they sell outs, how was World of Warcraft a sell out act. That is a very VAGUE statement.

I guess it sold a lot of copies, but then again so did almost every other Blizzard title.lol, hate is a strong word......i don't hate Blizzard, or any other game developers/publishers for that matter. but it does cease to amaze me long ago. after more than 10 years of milking on the same IPs, and the heavy loss of renowned talent around the early 2000s, i personally believe the company is only burning on fanware and cash now, instead of heart and soul like they used to back in the 90s.

They disregarded all of their previous fans to make money in another market. Sounds like sellouts to me. Reminds me of Metallica. ;)
Also, I was flicking through the Diablo II strategy guide this morning and came accross this: "In 1996, the original Diablo was released to the world and immediately (like all Blizzard games), it reshaped the computer gaming landscape." Isn't that a tad arrogant?
Ok ok, now you have upset me. First of all Blizzard really did re-shape computer gaming landscapes--that is a true statement. So being arrogant as you say is out of the question. Now you sound really jealous of Blizzard for some reason, perhaps your just terrible at the games, or straight up dont like them. Either way you slice it your thoughts are completely opinionated and quite frankly stupid. Put up a better argument next time.

Care to explain how? How is that a "true" statement and NOT an opinion? I guess creating an over-glorified Gauntlet clone and blatantly ripping off Warhammer is re-shaping the gaming landscape? Yeah, color me impressed.

Well going from an action rpg(diablo) to an mmo rpg (wow) is not a big deal. So how will you call blizzard if they ever put out a FPS and becomes extremely popular? you really want the company to keep on making diablos, starcrafts and warcrafts for ever?

He says that "their games are great" and "[f]antastic." He even "admire[s] what they're doing for the PC industry." So, he thinks their games are great and they're doing great things for the PC industry. What exactly is the problem here? Why does he hate Blizzard? I just don't get it!
I dont know anyone could hate Blizz -_-. Blizz is damn great, they made 2 of my favorite games EVER SC and D2, yea they r not original with their IP; they have been making the same 3 games for like 14 years but so what?. Lack of originality seems to be the rule these days, Vale is always making Shooters, SquareEnix keeps remaking the same damn FF games over and over, Nintendo keeps making the same Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Starfox OVER AND OVER.
I'm sorry but i dont see what u r complaining about. SC is one of the best RTS games ever made EVER, D2 is a damn great RPG/Hack N' Slash game; it seriously changed how RPG's were made. WC and i never got along very well, i just never liked the orcs and stuff like that :P but a lot of ppl seem to really dig it so Blizz must have done something right with that.
