Probably, but it does look quite beautiful.

Well I wouldn't say you were the "only one" I am sure there are others that think this is a "masterpiece" however most will acknowledge it was totally ruined with horrible graphical bugs, missing assets, horrible flickering shadows and a ridiculous lack of AA. So no GTA 4 is not the second best looking game after Crysis, it isn't even in the top 50 best looking games after Crysis it is just a horrible jagged mess of crap.

its overambitious, they should of just made the graphics a little more simple.

yes i do, or at least i did. i made a blog post saying the exact same thing about it about a year ago. shame so many have encountered problems with it or cant run it on high/very high settings at 1920 x 1080 or above because it looks incredible if you can get it to run smoothly

Yep, considering it's the most complex game out there, I'd say it looks even better and yes, I played Crysis and Warhead, maxed out at a high resolution.

We can but hope that they learn from their mistakes in GTA 4 and do a damn sight better for the next GTA. Unfortunately history tells us that Rockstar never learn from their mistakes and we can expect the same crap in the next GTA.

If you want to try and make something of the mess that is GTA 4 then you want to look for Environmental Mod V5 that does a pretty decent job of correcting some of the screw ups Rockstar did. As far as I know it doesn't replace the textures, I never dug into it deeply but when I used it the game looked much much better. The only downside to it is the reflection. I always felt the reflections were a bit top heavy (although you could probably tweak this if you could be bothered). At the end of the day you might as well give it a go, just back up your GTA 4 folder and if you don't like the mod then just put the backup files back.

look at closely to those car wheels...very low texture sets.

No arma 2,stalker clear sky,mirrors edge,devil may cry 4, unreal tournament 3, and crysis warhead look better then it infact alot games look better then it. And while overated gta was never about the graphics.

Maybe I read wrong but are you actually comparing corridor shooters with GTA IV? (ARMA 2 nope, stalker less, but ME, DMC 4 -which is far from GTA IV- and UT 3?).

God some people, if you want to make arguments at least think before you post. None of those games, except ARMA2, are similar to GTA IV. But really, comparing GTA IV with Mirror's Edge, UT 3 and DMC 4 is just stupid.

What i see is this game is quiet impressive and i think its that game that we can say the 2nd after crysis

Batman is much more sharp and detailed than gow or turok or x men wolverine of any other unreal engine 3 game, plus far superior lighting and shaders. What they done with unreal engine 3 alone is impressive!

ok nice topic...and i see that on this thread there are actually reasonable peopels not kids that are haveing fanboyism opinions...so giveing that fact i will make my top 5 best looking games and i will give few arguments why.

1.Far Cry 2 - i pick Far Cry 2 at number one because of the gigantic open world and the details in it...this is the only game that provides so many details in such a huge enviroment(not like a coridor shooter,wich may look better because the fact that it only renders such tiny portions)

And ofc another reason is the lightning wich make FarCry 2 such a graphical beauty.

2.Crysis - Now Crysis is allmost like FarCry 2 only with more animation and more character in it.

3.Batman AA - Like one of the guys here said this game feels so "plasticaly" :D BUT the shadows and lighting on this game are amazing,this is the most beautiful "u3 engine" game on the market atm.and ofc the detailed textures of the characters are pretty awesome.

4.GTA IV - I choose gta on number 4 only because of the huge open world that it has and the large amount of details in it...there are a lot more games out there that are more beautiful regarding to graphics,than gta iv BUT they dont have the insanely amount of detail like gta iv.

5.NFS Shift and DIRT 2 - I think NFS Shift has THE BEST lightning models(iam talking about the car models ofc) present in a game up to this date.And Dirt 2 has the most realistic roads/race enviroments seen in a game up to this date.

But let us not make the mistake of saying that an amazing looking game is a good game too...look at STALKER Clear Sky for example...excellent graphics,but a poor game overal.

GTA4 gets dropped down several notches below other games due to its major jaggies with its lack of proper anti-aliasing support.

Mirrors Edge, Dirt2, Stalkers all easily come before GTA4.

I liked GTA4, but praising that game on GS is reallllly asking for it. :P

I was running this game at max settings on high screen rez and the lack of AA killed it completely. Its not a bad looking game, but in the face of Farcry 2, Batman AA and others it's by far not the best, I'd say not even top 10
